Student Survival Guide Amanda Gordon Week Nine Final Project GENE/ 105 Lisa Broaching When attending college online, there are many things that are required which are not required for traditional schools. When going to school online, many things, such as study habits, must be fine tuned. There are also things that must be learned. This gulled will discuss those things as well as be my gulled to the University of Phoenix website and my gulled to completing my goal of finishing college and becoming a professional in my chosen field of study. Sing Ixia College’s Educational Resources The university of Phoenix Online provides many resources for the students to use while studying and writing papers for classes. The largest of these resources is the University Library. The university online library is a tool I have found to be very useful and have used numerous times during my first set of classes. This is a tool I plan on using throughout the rest of my time at the university of Phoenix. The university Library provides many services to the current online students.
These services include a Center for Writing Excellence, Center of Mathematics Excellence, ND many tutorials for the many different tools that you will use during your course of study at the university of Phoenix. The Center for Writing Excellence is a tool provided to help each student improve his or her writing style. The Center for Writing Excellence Includes applications such as a plagiarism checker and write check. The plagiarism checker Is used to help a student determine how much of his or her paper Is or appears to be popularized.
The plagiarism checker allows the student to download their paper into the system. After an allotted amount of time, the paper is turned with the percentage of the paper that appears to be popularized as well as shows you those select section so that you can change them. The write point tool is used to help students with the aspects of grammar that many times tend to slip past a student’s glance. The papers are submitted In the same way as the plagiarism checker. Once the paper Is returned, the student can upload the paper with notes added about ways to fix the grammar in the paper.
The Center for Mathematical Excellence is a tool provided to help each student improve his or her math skills. The Center for Mathematical Excellence includes applications such as Running Start and Math Anxiety. Running Start provides self assessments, refresher courses, and math preps for the many different math classes at the University of Phoenix. Math Anxiety provides hints and tips for helping students cope with the stress of math classes. Upholding Academic Honesty The university of Phoenix has strict rules against cheating and copying another person’s work.
The University of Phoenix’s rules forbid plagiarism. A student being caught doing so could be punished severely. The university’s online library provides a tool to assist students by helping them make their papers, their own. The most helpful of these tools is the plagiarism checker. The plagiarism checker is a tool I nave uses Truculently Walt many AT my writing assignments Tort my TLS set AT classes and plan to continue using for the rest of my time attending the University of Phoenix. The best way to ensure you don’t get caught up in plagiarism is to cite all resources and quotes.
If you copied anything from another person, you must give hem the proper credit they deserve and the end of your paper, or else it is considered plagiarism. Setting and Achieving Goals Setting goals is a huge part of attending college. Achieving goals takes a lot of hard work and planning. The best way to begin is to think about where you want to be or what you want to achieve at a specific point in time in your future. Once you have reached this point, begin to work backwards. What steps will you take to get you to that point? What steps will you take to get to those points?
Once you have made it wrought this process, you will know what you need to do to achieve your goals. Also, a great way to keep yourself motivated is to have a friend or family member know your plans. Then, whenever you are feeling like you can’t do it or it is too hard, you will have someone to hold you up and support you and your goals. Before I discovered this process, I wasn’t sure where I was going to be in three years or even five years. Now I have a plan for what I will do post college, and for years after that. Managing Time Wisely Managing your time wisely is a must when attending college.
Many people don’t realize the way that the use their time. Many people waste more time than they realize on little things, such as watching television. An excellent way to figure out how well you manage your time is to keep a running log of you daily activities for a week. After a week, take the log and compare how you spend your time from day to day. Many times you will find that you spend too much time doing useless things. This time would be best used doing more productive things such as studying. After I created a log I discovered that I spend too much of my time playing around during he day.
I have now set up a schedule for myself to help me manage my time better. There are many aspect of attending college online that requires a bit more adjusting than regular college. Having been through one set of classes already has shown me that taking classes online is going to require quite a bit more discipline and focus than a regular college due to the relaxed nature of the classes.
