Leadership is generally thought of as a one of the most important components to the success of a company. There was three main points |to distinguish} a leader: having people to lead, having certain skills to achieve} the company’s objectives, focusing on} accomplishing goals. Nowadays, in a dynamic, high competitive market understanding leadership is very |crucial for} any heath care facility. A Company cannot be innovative and competitive without comprehending the importance of leadership. The pace and nature of change in today’s dynamic health care system.
Requires new different types of organizations, along with a} new style of, leadership – entrepreneurial (Tarabishy, Solomon & Fernald, 2002). The entrepreneurial leadership is one of an enterprising, transformational leader who operates in a dynamic market which offers lucrative opportunities. According to Sashkin (1995), the entrepreneurial leader has the following transformational leader dimensions: clarity, communication, consistency, caring, creating opportunities, self-confidence, power need and its use, and vision.

Besides all of these, the entrepreneur part of entrepreneurial leadership is the ability to recognize opportunities within a dynamic market and “the capacity to} build, share, and leverage knowledge” that “will replace the ownership and/or control over assets as a primary way to obtain competitive advantage (Ireland and Hitt, 1999). I chose to interview Mrs. T. the administrator of a critical care nursing facility. Who undoubtedly, embodies the essence of an effective leader. She understands the way a} health facility works. First as being a nurse an educational leader and consultant.
She started her nursing career in public health where she worked for seven years. She has spent 17 years in home health concentrating on geriatric care Along with being a nurse educator. Mrs. Thebaud continues to be the current administrator in this critical care facility in the past 8 years. She is known for her problem solving abilities. She is also an avid communicator. She is a visionary constantly strives to enhance healthcare outcomes, experiences and results. Her personal philosophy on leadership is first and for most one have to be true to one self and one most fundamental beliefs.
She ascribes a philosophy of a lifelong learning. She exhibits high self- esteem as well as a high regard |to the needs of others. As a visionary, she is not threatened by competition. She is very active in her professional organization. She believes in building connection to nursing within this ever changing world. By connecting with people, she feels that she is better able to sustain nursing operation. She sees a leader as being a person who engages across numerous channels. Consistently develop a better outcome for everyone involves.
A leader has the capacity to create partnership opportunities to support their visions. She thinks this is exactly what made her stand out in a crowded field. A leader must have a mindset of integrity. A leader needs to be capable of streamlining and do you’re very best to remove waste. All a while, improving efficiency causing, better employee’s performance and patient’s satisfaction. She believes in order to be a transformational leader in the healthcare industry one has to demonstrate courage, ingenuity and hard work. As a leader one has to be able to challenge assumption, see things differently.
As a leader, he/she must have a message that simple enough to align your workforce to you as a leader. Mrs. T. thinks that important qualities of leader first and for most is subjective. However, she believes that there are some common leadership traits that one can strive to achieve. A leader’s intelligence and his or her ability to comprehend the different tasks and able communicate the best way to achieve it as a team. A great leader must have foresight as well as the ability to take a step back and look at the big picture. Vision is among the most significant tools a leader might have |as part of his or her toolbox.
People skills a good leader must not only know when to be cordial and when to put his or her foot down while dealing with his followers, also able to maintain the balance between the two. A leader ought to be consistent, and unwavering |as part of his} or her approach. To her the most prominent quality of a leader is the way he/she communicates. As a leader, she is passionate about what she does for a living and loving every minute and strives to attain} excellence at whatever she does, she is unafraid to take a risk. She believes in being bold, if she comes short she learns from her mistakes.
Therefore, she does not regard it as failure but rather a learning experience because, in the end, she would have gain knowledge. Which in turns gives her ability to develop new strategies to better the process. She reiterates that she is a bold and audacious in setting goals because if you are unable to dream you will never achieve it. Her motto is becoming comfortable in being uncomfortable. She said be a sponge when it comes to learning and have a childlike curiosity with regards to learning. She also believes in working hard and playing hard. If you have fun, your job becomes much easier.
She tries to see the potential in everything and do her very best to land a helping hand. She states that she is also very decisive “if my gut tells it’s right I am going to make the call. ” She totally believes, in being her team best advocate. Another motto of hers is united we stand firm, in division we would surely fall. Most of all she believes in being honest and excuses are simply unacceptable to her. She also believes in open and honest communication. She views herself as transformational and entrepreneurial leader. Because, she brings a business mindset into her healthcare environment.
Within our facility, we are making many advances care for our patients, and accelerate the level of care. So that, we becomes a leader in providing innovating and improve heath for our patient. In the same token, we regard our facility as a business. Therefore, it has to have all the great qualities a great business has. The two does not have to be at odds with one another. When |done properly |it will create an atmosphere through which all of us could make better decisions. This permits us to be a financially sound and in turn enable us to better serve our patients and to innovate.
As a leader, she is open to inputs from everyone in the organization. For this to happen she creates a culture of openness, and she makes it a point to say that this is not limited to her staff. The patients and their family can tell her what is on their mind. She emphasizes that a leader listen and able to embrace negativity to bring about a positive outcome. You need to know when bad things happen so you can fix it. So they would not happen again. One of the most challenging issue she faces as a leader is changing mindset and habits. You would encounter a group that wants to keep the status quo.
Persuading people to change their habit the practice for mostly their entire career can be challenging. She stated that many culminating events have shaped her in to the leader she is today. One of the even mostly impacted her beliefs as a leader was while she was working as public health care nurse in the inner cities. She encountered a young child in the most horrific of situation. She had the unfortunate opportunity to experience the lack of compassion shown to this poor and vulnerable child by a healthcare leader. That day she vowed to erself that she would be absolutely different and dedicated herself to educating nursing students about the importance of compassion and bedside matters. As we all know, today’s health care is undergoing rapid changes. Hospitals, as well as other, healthcare facilities, are restructuring in response to economic pressures and manage care initiatives. Largely contribute to the evolution of nurse executives. They have to prepared, and horn in their expertise, to develop and operate a new system created under restructuring initiative. She views mentoring as one of an essential part of her career.
As she remembers her favorite mentor and teacher, Ms. Blair in nursing school who coached and encouraged her to put forth her best in all that she does. She state that formal mentoring is extremely important to the future of nursing as it can help establish a healthful working environment and facilitates career developments. Her advice to someone inspiring to be a leader is to be honest with you. Know your strengths as well as your weakness. This only way you would ever be confident and instill trust with your team. Always be in the pursuit of knowledge. Stay a brass with technology and innovation.
Keep an open mind all of a while embracing change see it as an opportunity rather than a challenge. Most of all make sure you find your passion for their lie your success. For if people can see your passion it can be full and where it can cut on fire and exude change in others. In conclusion, a healthcare leader is one who provides expertise to help manage the complex and ever changing healthcare organization.
