Thought they were someone they weren’t? Look no further than looking, the newest form of discrimination. Looking is prejudice towards people based on what they look like, and it’s not fair. It’s cruel. It’s wrong. And it’s unjust. Many in society feel it should be banned, and is well known as the ‘new racism’ and ‘modern prejudice’. It came from all forms of media, and is everywhere you look. Movies, magazines, books, TV shows, newspapers; you name it, it’s there. Perhaps you’ve seen the movie ‘Mean Girls?
Or ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid? Movies Just like these have brought unfair stereotypes to society, and it is crucial it stops. Suddenly all Asians are smart, all blondes are stupid, anyone with black hair is Goth and memo, if you have glasses you’re smart and if you’re fat you’re lazy. Society needs to stop following the ideas and stereotypes the media has presented us with. It’s stupid and wrong, and it’s sad society has had to resort to such bad Judgment. Everyone’s different, and it’s not right to use someone’s appearance against them. Take eating disorders for example.
Just last year, the statistics for death of eating corridors was up to twelve times higher than all other causes. Rates of anorexia and bulimia have been rising dramatically over the past few years, and it is crucial to put an end to this to save younger generations. If prejudice based on appearance could be stopped, Just think of what it could do to the eating disorder rates! People can’t help who they are and what they look like, and so to Judge them based on their hair color or their size or what they’re wearing is wrong and unjust.
Media has changed our perception of people completely, entirely changing our sense of judgment to one that is almost non-existent. It has given us a retorted version of what people should and shouldn’t look like, and it’s not right. When anyone doesn’t look how we want them to society is prejudiced against them, which is absolutely terrible. Maybe you’ve heard people saying ‘Oh sorry, Just had a blonde moment’ or people calling people with ginger hair ‘crazy rangers’. This is Just another form of prejudice, and it has to stop. Looking is Just as bad as racism, prejudice towards the homeless and the disabled, as well as ageism.
It sounds ridiculous, but society has been scrimmaging and excluding people based on appearance-even preventing people from getting Jobs! Did you know that a taller man is 10 times more likely to get a Job than a shorter man? As crazy as this sound, it’s true. Some people say ‘beauty comes from within’ or ‘don’t Judge a book by its cover’, but have they ever really thought about what this means? No matter what they say, everyone takes part in looking every day, and it has to stop. Appearances can often looking, the world would be a better place. Think before you Judge, and give the world a better future.
