Globalization has brought rapid change in the life style of present generation. The things which are luxurious at one time have now became minimum needs. The modern facilities like Air Conditioners, Computers, Mobiles, Cars etc have became as a part of life and as such the consumption of Electrical & fuel energy is very high. To save fossil fuels from extinct and to minimize the usage of electricity & gasoline, it is needless to mention that there is an urgent need to harness every source of energy to safeguard Nations’ future. Energy Conservation Mission & NEDCAP have inspired and motivated us in Bhavan’s Vidyashram team to adopt the project “Conservation of Energy’. The viability of the project is very easy to adopt the saving methods and easy to adopt the alternate sources of energy viz. solar energy etc.. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Public School, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh ,lndia Explain your Project’s link to Sustainable Development We planned our project till the month of April 2013 We made a comparative study of conservation of energy. We compared the electricity conservation at our residence nd observed a reasonable saving in the monthly bills.

In the School also observing No Power Day on Monday and Friday from 1st to 5th period in the morning session, we were able to save electricity consumption and reduce the monthly expenditure. There is a reasonable change in the monthly electricity consumption in the School. Even the student’s observed power saving in their residences and made a comparative study about monthly usage. Overall they tried to minimize the usage of energy. The students have tabulated and shown the conservation of energy through ictorial diagrams i. e bar graphs.

The Principal, Teachers and Parents appreciated the work of the children in doing the innovative working model of Low Cost LED Torch. Many of the parents shared their views regarding the project done by the students and sent E Mails appreciating the work done by the team. As the children started observing conservation of energy in their houses, many of the parents have shown interest and encouraged the children in doing so. The posters made by our students on conservation of electrical & fuel energy have helped parents to save the onthly consumption and also their pocket.

Parents also became a part in this small initiative. Objectives and Targets for Project Energy Conservation: ?????? To enable the students to identify and understand that most of the activities in our daily life require energy. ?????? The students understand use and misuse in relation to energy conservation. ?????? To observe and classify various energy sources predict and impact of tapping energy from the various energy sources. ?????? The students to develop skills of classification, observation, collection, comparing and analysing information n energy resources. ???? To identify and evaluate alternate solutions for non-renewable energy. ?????? To observe systematically and calculate accurately energruse details for practicing energy efficiently. ?????? To enable the students understand the importance of individual action in conserving energy resources. ?????? To enable the students to carry out a energy audit in the school and to devise a campaign to conserve electricity. All sorts of strategies what ever are possible to achieve our mission we tried our level best. This is only the beginning. Any small step in the right direction will definitely be a giant leap for the man kind. The decision taken up by the Government may or may not alter the worsening situation. But if we are able to think ahead and put mother earth ahead of us, for the sake of posterity, we will have the satisfaction of doing our bit! For that we will have to think of human being and living beings later on our country, state etc. A single deed of work will create a drastic change.

So we as individuals shall start to contribute to this noble act. If one person moves nothing happens. But if a billion people act, the earth will move in the right direction. It is our responsibility to contribute a share of good deed for this wonderful initiative. Results Energy is the most fundamental part of our universe. Everything we do is connected to energy in one form or another. In order to conserve electrical and fuel energy forms and also to inculcate the habit of using alternate sources of energy the project Conservation of Energy was taken up. ???? To conserve electrical & fuel energy, a PPT on the areas where energy is being wasted has been presented and had a discussion among the peer groups, learned Principals of prestigious institutions and Parents. The electrical consumption of Bhavans has been studied nd with the co-operation of Principal, Staff and Students observed No Power Day o Monday & Friday from 1st to 5th period in the morning session.

Posters on energy saving were prepared and displayed in the school premises, office room of Principal, Vice Principal, Staff room. Students also observed Power Shutdown (No Power) in their houses for two hours from 4 – 6 pm on Sunday, Monday & Tuesday of every week. As a part of Low Cost – No Cost energy saving ideas, children prepared a working model of LED Torch Light in which chemical energy of a battery gets converted into energy which gets converted to light energy. Students also prepared a Mosquito Repellent [Liquid Spray] which can be used without power.

A group of students have prepared Bio Fuels to use them in place of Petrol, Diesel to avoid environment pollution and also to save fossil fuels. As a alternative source of energy, we in Bhavan’s Vidyashram started using solar panels for lighting in Hostel, Office, Principal’s room. The students have conducted a survey on usage of solar water heaters and panels in residential houses and created awareness on usage of solar energy in place of electrical energy. we along with Bhavan’s Teachers & Students rganlzea a rally In tne JuDllee Hills area to orlng awareness on Energy conservatlon.

Lessons Learned Yes our group learned so much from all the missions that we have done. A single deed of work will create a drastic change. So we as individuals shall start to contribute to this noble act. If one person moves nothing happens. But if a billion people act, the earth will move in the right direction. It is our responsibility to contribute a share of good deed for this wonderful initiative. the valuable lesson was to conserving all natural resources should be the motto of all citizens of the world.
