Now as a grown up want to finally be able to figure out how or why people die. I want to put my critical thinking skills, knowledge and medical background to good use. After researching about this career, made it clear to myself that it is not going to be easy but I will fulfill my dream. Just this thought of knowing that will be making a difference gives me the strength to continue. If you are interested in this career like me, make sure that you know the following. The easiest way for becoming a crime scene investigator is to become involved with law enforcement.

In some cases some police departments hire civilian crime scene investigators, but most are looking for investigators with a police aground. In order to be qualified to get a job you need at least a F. ‘vow year associates degree. However, there are many police departments that require applicants to have a bachelor’s degree. There are a lot of colleges that offer majors for crime scene investigation degrees including criminal justice, criminology, and forensics. This particular career requires a valid driver’s license and a valid license to carry a weapon.

Like any other career you must complete JUICE’S to maintain your certificate/licensing up to date. Continuing education requires a person to complete four courses online, forensic hydrotherapy, principles of death investigation, perspectives in expert testimony and crime scene investigation. So now we will discuss the job details of a Crime Scene Investigator. “The crime scene investigator works at the office of his or her job assignment Monday through Friday, which is normally 8:30 a. M. To 4:30 p. M. They must accept scheduled after-hours standby duty every other week.

While on standby, the crime scene investigator must be readily available by pager or phone at all times to respond to requests for service. In addition to the standby duty, the incumbent is expected to respond to emergency calls whenever necessary 24 ours a day”. (Anonymous C 2008) The crime scene investigators (CSS) are in charge of securing evidence and examining details left at the scene of a crime. They are also responsible for meticulously sorting through evidence and using details to assist prosecutors in building a valid case.

I have done some research and I have to admit that there is a lot Of interesting information regarding this career. What I found Interesting after my research is that a CSS must complete a minimum of 720 hours of training in crime scene processing, with a minimum of 80 hours of training in latent engineering processing 40 hours in advanced death investigations, 40 hours in blood spatter interpretation, 40 hours in major death investigation, 40 hours in photography and other training courses in arson investigation and forensic pathology.

Nevertheless, the crime scene investigators must be certified by the International Association for Identification, Crime Scene Certification Board, within 18 months as a crime scene investigator. ” (Anonymous C 2008 5) Also as a CSS you must obtain contact with the law enforcement officials at all levels, state and federal. This is not an easy career and does quire some schooling in order to be a successful crime scene investigator. In my opinion, all this hard work and sacrifice does pay off at the end. Why do I think that?
