Did the new deal help or hurt our country? In President Roosevelt Inaugural address, President Roosevelt said, “This nation asks for action, and action now. ” He announced a special session of congress, which became known as the Hundred Days. During the Hundred Days, Congress approved numerous programs to battle the depression. Together these programs became known as the New deal. There are many reasons why I think the New Deal helped our country. One reason I believe that the New Deal helped our country Is because of Its many different programs that helped get America out of the great depression.
One program that the “New Deal” had was the SEC. The SEC stands for Securities and Exchange Commission. The mission of the SEC is to protect investors, and maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets. Each year the SEC brings hundreds of civil enforcement actions against companies and Individuals for violation of the securities and the companies that Issue them. Without this program other people or companies doing insider trading can be making more money and not creating fair marketing for people buying products.
Overall without the SEC the marketing business would fail impolitely because the SEC balances things out and it makes it fair for competing companies. Another program that the New Deal had was the FAA. The FAA stands for Federal Housing Administration. The FAA Insures bank loans for building and repairing homes. This helped so much during the Great Depression. This helped us get out of the Great Depression because many people during that time were homeless because they couldn’t afford houses.
Many people couldn’t afford houses because they didn’t have Jobs. Unemployment was a big issue during the great depression. When people ere out of a job they were not making money so many people became homeless, but luckily when the new deal created the program called the FAA people were able to make houses and live In them and not be homeless anymore. This brought us one step closer to putting our stock markets back together and getting us out of the Great Depression. This helps us today because it still does what it did back then.
It helps improve housing standards and conditions, provides an adequate home financing system through insurance of mortgage loans, and stabilizes the mortgage market. The last reason why I think the new deal helped our country Is because of the PAW. The PAW stands for Public Works Administration. The PAW built large scale public works such as dams, bridges, hospitals, and schools. The PAWS goals were to provide employment, stabilize purchasing power, and help revive the economy.
Increasing Jobs and employment was probably one the best things that happened during the Great Depression. 25% of the American workfare was unemployed. Today our highest percent Is about 9% of unemployment. That’s a big difference and that’s big part in helping America get out of the Great Depression because it gave people ore Jobs which meant those people were making money again. When people make more money it helps revive our economy. Originally this program was called the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, it was renamed The Public Works Administration in 1939.
The Public Works Administration shut down in 1943 but thankfully did a great Job and had a big role in helping America out of the depression. Many critics argue that the new deal never brought full economic recovery. They point out that the U. S suffered another small depression in 1937-1938. However, supporters of the new deal like me argue that it prevented the economic and political collapse of the United States and created agencies and programs to help prevent future depressions.
Some of these such as The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and social Security still exist today. The New Deal revolutionized almost every aspect of American life. The new deal also greatly expanded the role of the federal government. Similarly, Roosevelt increased the role of the president. Overall the new deal I think definitely helped our country and the reasons I choose I believe really support my opinion on why I think the New Deal helped our country.
