Is Prejudice A Fact Of Life In America? Prejudice is a fact in America. Prejudice is also a very serious problem in America. It is a problem that has been around since the beginning of time. A problem that doesn’t only affect one race, ethnicity, or religion either. This is a serious problem and should be fought against more often and a problem that everybody need to know about. People are often hurt in both physical and mental ways in America because of prejudice. People are beat-up or maybe killed just because of their race or ethnicity.
One example of this is Caucasian people how they used to have African-Americans as slaves and how even after they were set free from slavery they still had no rights. They could barely even vote. One of their votes only counted as 3 fifths of a vote, it would take 5 African-Americans just to get 3 votes. In “To Kill a Mockingbird” a “black” person gets accused of rape and is found guilty even though it was obvious that he didn’t and couldn’t do it and in the end he gets shot and killed. The prejudice doesn’t only affect one person, race, or ethnicity.
All races and ethnicities are affected too. Asians and Latinos are often messed with because of prejudice. They are called names and they form gangs and start gang wars. There was even a time where Asians couldn’t do anything like vote just because a lot of them didn’t speak English. Some people are even affected just for helping another race. Like “To Kill a Mockingbird” a guy is called a “nigger lover” just for defending a African-American in a case, he is even confronted for it and could of gotten hurt if someone hadn’t stepped in.
Today people are still affected. Stereotypes are the main problem in today’s world. Some people think that people from a certain race, ethnicity or religion all do the same thing. Like they think all African-Americans are good at sports and that all Asian people are smart and get good grades. There are even groups of people that are prejudice against certain races, ethnicities and/or religions. One of these groups is the KKK or Ku Klux Klan. Prejudice is a fact in America and people need to know and need to do something about it.
