Pollution is the process of giving out contaminants such as smoke and carbon dioxide, and too much of a certain products such as light, heat and sound that both cause harm to the environment. There are several types of Pollution such as Water, Air and Noise pollution. Water pollution is a global plague that affects the people, animals, and plants. These life forms need water to survive. The causes are contributed greatly by the human population. Recently, laws have been passed to protect the precious drinking waters.
Although they are in effect, most are ignored or loop holes have been mound by major corporations so they can still “legally” dump harmful waste near water supplies. There are several factors that causes water pollution. One Of the reasons that the water pollution problem is so severe is that it is not actually illegal to dump pollutants into water bodies. Sewage, sludge, garbage, and even toxic pollutants are all dumped into the water. Often, governments either do not care or simply look the other way.
Across the world, about half of all sewage is dumped into water bodies in its original form. No efforts are made to disinfect the sewage or to remove especially armful pollutants. Even if sewage is treated, problems still arise. Treated sewage forms sludge, which is sent out into the sea and dumped. Many cities and countries dump sewage out at sea. Often, they place it not far from their own coastline, often killing all the sea wildlife in the dumping area. In addition to sewage, chemicals dumped by industries and governments are another major source of water pollution.
Another dangerous cause is oil. Oil, such as that spilled by transport ships, has been dumped into the water. “Every year, between 1 and 10 billion tons of oil are spilt, killing many species and estrogen the ecosystem in the area. Clean-up efforts have been weak, as only about 10% of the oil is removed by the most successful efforts” . The direct effect of oil spills is horrifying. Thousands of animals suffer a slow, agonizing death. This degrades the environment because not every oil soaked carcass is picked up, some wash up on shore for the innocent to walk upon and see.
The effects of chemical water pollution are varied and depend on what chemicals are dumped and in what locations by Industries. The main effect of chemical water pollution is that it kills life that inhabits water-based ecosystems. Dead fish, birds, dolphins, and many other animals often wind up on beaches, killed by pollutants in their habitat. The chemical poisoning in water have a great impact on humans because it can cause brain damage and physical deformities in unborn fetus. Pollution disrupts the natural food chain as well. Pollutants such as lead and cadmium are eaten by tiny animals.
Later, these animals are consumed by fish and shellfish, and the food chain continues to be disrupted at all higher levels. Eventually, humans are affected by this process as well. People can get diseases such as hepatitis by eating seafood that has been poisoned. Ecosystems can be severely changed or destroyed by water pollution. Many areas are now being affected by careless human pollution, and this pollution is coming back to hurt humans. Water is a vital element of life. The pollution of water greatly affects humans and animals alike.
Water pollution harms individuals, degrades the environment, and shows the ignorance of polluters. There are really two sides to the solution issue: Cleanup and prevention. Water pollution is a senseless act that people can help stop. Air Pollution Air Pollution is another major problem that is yet to be solved. The air is 99. 9% nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, and inert gases. We as humans depend on the air around us to live, without it we would die. Although we rely on this as an essential source for living, it is still littered and polluted with chemicals.
Pollution of the atmosphere and the air around us is air pollution, and this is becoming more “popular” everyday. There are several main types of air pollution that include Smog, acid rain, the greenhouse effect, and ‘holes” in the ozone layer. The types are extremely harmful to the environment and loud result in serious damage. There are many causes of air pollution and there are many to blame. The first type of air pollution is smog. The word smog came from a newspaper article almost SO years ago. The word is slang for smoke and fog, and that is indeed what smog is.
Smog is a form of air pollution created by the photochemical reaction with sunlight and the chemicals in the air, and than this deadly mixture is released into the atmosphere. An example of how fatal smog was in 1 952 with the incident, “Loon’s killer smog. ” This incident happened in December of 1952, when a deadly wave of smog hit London killing over 1 0,000 people. Citizens walked through the streets with surgical masks on, waiting for a wind to raise and blow this terrible wave of pollution away.
There wish came true on December 10, after almost a week of terror and many injured and dead people. Smog alone is just as fatal and dangerous as the other forms of air pollution. Vehicles crowding roadways, power plants pumping smoke and chemicals from consumer products have many people thinking about air pollution and how it affects the planet. Air pollution is a complicated problem with many causes and effects and few solutions. Reducing air pollution and its effects will require the cooperation of people everywhere. Many people are affected by air pollution, whether or not they know it.
Fuel Economy. Gob reports that in 2007, about 150 million Americans lived in areas where monitored air pollution reached unhealthy levels. Although industry does cause air pollution, the vehicles crowding the highways produce many, if not most, of the chemicals that cause smog and pollution-related health problems. In this industrial age, air pollution cannot be eliminated completely, but steps an be taken to reduce it. The government has developed, and continues to develop, guidelines for air quality and ordinances to restrict emissions in an effort to control air pollution.
On an individual level, you can reduce your contribution to the pollution problem by carpooling or using public transportation. Additionally, buying energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances or otherwise reducing your electricity use will reduce the pollutants released in the production of electricity. Institutional SUMMARY: Noise has a big impact on people all day everyday. But with people not togging it, makes it hard for anyone to do anything about it. It is causing many different problems to people mentally, socially, and physically.
There are many ways to help or prevent it, but these changes are not immediately visible, so they are left unattended to. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Exposure to very loud sounds that are enjoyable, and not technically noise to the listener can lead to hearing impairment. A survey of hearing was tested among youngsters between the ages of 6 and 19. They found that 1 out of 8 of them suffered a noise-related hearing problem. Teens attend dances, quip vehicles with systems, and even work in loud fast food restaurants. Noises are especially bothersome at night when one is trying to sleep, which is vital to good health.
Noise from snowmobiles, jet skis, and supersonic jets has also intruded on the environment, affecting animals’ abilities to communicate, protect their young, and mate. MENTHOLATED: Noise pollution is not believed to be a cause of mental illness, but it is assumed to accelerate and intensify the development of latent mental disorders. Some of these cases would be: anxiety, stress, nervousness, cause, headache, emotionally instability, argumentative, sexual impotence, changes in mood, and increase in social conflicts.
The news media regularly report violent behavior arising out of disputes over noise which in many cases these disputes ended in injury or death. SOCIAL HEALTH: Noise is a prominent feature of the environment including noise from transport, industry, and neighbor’s. Exposure to transport noise disturbs sleep in the laboratory, but not generally in field studies where adaptation occurs. Noise interferes in complex task performances, modifies social behavior and causes annoyance.
