Global Warming Assignment

Global Warming Assignment Words: 1583

Obviously there is no one magic solution to the problem of global warming. People are facing with many problems from global warming. It is nearly to the rate of alarming, therefore people should pay more attention to environment if they don’t want to disappear because of losing soil, rising sea level, melting ice, and animals extinction. So, recognizing global warming is an urgent problem I decide to choose it as a topic for my essay. My essay will conclude 5 parts about global warming: introduction about global warming its causes, effects, solutions and conclusion.

Certainly, my essay could make a stake or lack of information, I expect that you could give your comment and suggestion for me to make my essay full and completed. L. Introduction about global warming. 1. What is global warming? For sure, you have heard a lot of about global warming in recent years. However I will give you more information about it. Global warming is the rise in the average temperature Of Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. It has begun since the late 1 9th century and its projected continuation. Since the early 20th century, Earth’s mean surface temperature has increased by about 0. Co (1. 4 OF), with about two-thirds of the increase occurring since 1980. It is primarily caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases produced by human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation… 2. General view on global warming. There are different views over what the appropriate policy response to climate change should be. These competing views weigh the benefits of limiting emissions of greenhouse gases against the costs. In general, it seems likely that climate change will impose greater damages and risks in poorer regions.

Although there have many views on it, almost of them show that global warming is caused mainly by human-induced emissions of greenhouse asses. People should have solutions to this problem. II. Global warming causes Global warming is an overall state of existence that is the cumulative effect of hundreds of environmental factors. All of these join together in both a linear and random model to show global warming as a chain of events. The primary cause of global warming is Carbon Dioxide emissions. Besides, we must count to methane.

Because the molecular structure of Methane makes it 20 times as powerful a Greenhouse gas than CO. Actually, they can’t not be harmful for environment their selves if people do not impact on them. Let’s see the ARPA below about the carbon dioxide level rising in recent years. In 1 950, CO level equals O, but in 2005 it increased dramatically. Rising level of CO is affected by main people ‘activities. There are many causes but will only list some activities affecting rising CO below: 1. Using transportation and burning fuels. As you know everyday billions of vehicles release various gases into the atmosphere.

This causes earth to warm up and increase its average temperature. Moreover, fossil fuels are burnt for example; coal is burnt to produce electricity. Coal is the major fuel that is burnt in these power plants. Coal produces around 1. Times as much carbon dioxide per unit of energy when flamed as does natural gas and 1. 25 times as much as oil. Over 75% of the electricity worldwide is produced by burning fossil fuels. Many gases are sent into the air when fossil fuels are burnt of which main is the carbon dioxide gas. On the other hand industries release various gases into the water and air.

Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide are the major greenhouse gases. Different gases have different heat trapping capabilities. Some of them trap more heat than carbon dioxide. Methane is much more effective then carbon dioxide in entrapping heat in the atmosphere. By driving cars, using electricity from coal fired plants and heating up our homes from natural gases, we release carbon dioxide and other heat trapping gases in the atmosphere. 2. Deforestation Deforestation is the cutting down of trees and plants to make way for any development activity.

Carbon dioxide is the air that our body lets out when we breathe. Trees take in this carbon dioxide and release oxygen that we breathe in. With the cutting down of more and more trees is leading to greater concentration of carbon dioxide in the air. Deforestation is blamed for rise in the greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere by cutting or burning hem. New development projects, requirement of land for homes and factories, requirement for wood and also soil erosion are the major factors that are causing deforestation, which in turn leading to global warming. 3.

Landfills When we throw garbage out of our house it goes to landfills. Landfills are those big chunks of garbage that you must have seen on some expressway, when you go out of your city that stink. Moreover most of the time that garbage is burnt which then release some toxic gases into the atmosphere. This enormous amount of toxic greenhouse gases when go into the atmosphere makes global warming worse. 4. Population Another cause Of global warming is population. Since Carbon dioxide contributes to global warming, the increase in population makes the problem worse because we breathe out carbon dioxide.

More people means more demand for food, more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, more demand for cars, more demand for homes and they all in somehow or other lead to global warming. More demand for food will lead to more transportation since movement of goods and services is done by transportation sector. More demand for cars means more pollution in the air and more traffic on the roads which means longer waiting time on the traffic lights and will result ore burning of fuel. More demand for homes means cutting down of trees to make way for homes, schools and colleges. Ill.

Effects Global warming has bad impacts on our lives as well as our environment and our habitat. To specify, since about 1950, the Earth’s global surface temperature has risen by just more than 6 degree Celsius or over 1 degree Fahrenheit. Look at the graph, we can see the global temperature rises day by day if we don’t do anything to stop that. Recently, you know there have too many disasters happened, losing soil, desertification… Etc. In my essay, will show some most noticeable effects such as: 1. Rising sea level As you know, global warming is rising temperature that causes melt ice and then leads to rising sea level.

Moreover rising sea level also leads to losing soil. From 1870 to 1992, the average sea level rise has been 1. 7 mm. As the chart below indicates, those rates have nearly doubled starting in 1993. If we don’t have any suitable solution, we will have no land to live. So rising sea level is very dangerous. Sea level rising is alarming people for their activities, we should consider what should we do for this problem. 2. Flood and drought. When the temperature rises, water evaporates then it condense to form loads and fall as rain or snow.

But in dry areas where water is scarce and many plant life depend on water from lakes and rivers, the increased evaporation is likely to worsen the dry conditions and drought occurs, this make crops die and hunger and thirst, it really happened in Africa, many people have nothing to eat even no water to drink. In contrast, in wet areas, more water will be evaporated and will eventually fall in these areas as rain or snow which results on floods. 3. Weather patterns will keep changing. Droughts and floods are frequently happened but droughts happened in dry areas and floods did in wet areas, this leads to water cycled is reversed.

Hence, dry areas will be drier and wet areas will be wetter. For sure extreme weather will become more frequent and worse. Storms with more intense rainfall are likely to bring worse floods. Some places will get more snowstorms, but most mountain glaciers and winter snowplow will shrink, each of these things has already begun to happen in some regions. 4. Ecosystem will be affected With strange weather condition, our ecosystem will be affected. Uncounted valuable species, especially in the Arctic, mountain areas, and tropical seas, must shift their ranges. Many that cannot will face extinction.

A variety of pests and tropical diseases are expected to spread to warmed regions. These problems have already been observed in numerous places. IV. Solutions Obviously, there are no effective measures at once. To solve this problem we only can do step by step. I only want to recommend some activity we could to reduce global warming like that: 1 . Stop deforestation: If we stop deforestation, less trees means less absorption of greenhouse gases which are in itself responsible for more global warming. We can fight global warming by reducing deforestation and forest degradation.

Managing forests and agriculture therefore should be the top priority to reduce carbon emissions. 2. Use public transportation: Pollution from vehicles accounts for major proportion of carbon emissions. Usages of public transportation, carpooling and low carbon fuels not only reduce pollution but also reduce vehicular traffic on the road. In the long run, public transportation appears more cost friendly and doesn’t pinch the pocket. 3. Plant trees Trees not only help our environment fresh and supply oxygen for outlives but also hold soil and avoid soil from eroding.
