Aim and purpose The aim of this unit is to enable learners to understand the stages of recruitment and selection. Learners will learn about the processes involved before a vacancy is advertised and the reasons why businesses might need to recruit additional staff. They will learn the difference between the vacancies advertised inside and those advertised outside the business. As part of this process learners will become familiar with the different paperwork that is involved during the selection and recruitment process. Assignment 1: Know the processes involved in recruitment planning (Pl) Scenario

You work for a recruitment agency and have been asked to carry out some research into how organizations plan recruitment using internal and external sources. You have been asked to identify at least two organizations and prepare a presentation to inform your colleagues of your findings. In this task you need to investigate into two businesses and need to explain how the two organizations plan recruitment using internal and external sources. You will need to understand that there are a number of reasons why vacancies occur and that the decision to recruit will be the result of an analysis by the organization of its requirements.

You will need to create a ‘Recruitment Guide’ for your recruitment agency that you work for and comment on the following: Recruitment planning Reason for vacancy e. G. Employee leaving, increased volume of business, different work maternity cover, sickness Decision to recruit Internal recruitment External sources of recruitment (use of job centers, consultants, recruitment agencies) Cost and time considerations of external sourcing Recruitment advertising Internal advertising External advertising Format and type of advertisement (choice of media, use of external agencies, Cost implications Legal considerations of recruitment advertising

Methods of application e. G letter, online, telephone You will need to explain that a vacancy may be filled internally or externally. External sources may be used but you will need to explain the time and cost implications of external recruitment. The vacancy may be advertised internally and externally. If advertised externally, the choice of media will need to be explained and how it will meet the targeted candidates.

Pl Identify how two organizations plan recruitment using internal and external sources Assignment 2: Understand the implications of the regulatory framework for the process of recruitment and selection (UP) You work as a part of the Human Resources department in an organization and been asked to attend a Government conference on regulatory framework in the process of recruitment and selection in organizations in the KICK. You must feedback your information and prepare a presentation for the Human Resources department to ensure they adhere to the laws and legislation outlined.

In order to do this you should create a Powering Presentation and a handout and ensure you have included the following: Current UK and E legislation Sex Discrimination Act 1995/1997 Race Relations Act 1992 Equal Pay Act 1970 Disability Discrimination Acts 1995 and 2005 European Working Time Directive Employment Act 2002 National Minimum Wage Data Protection 1 998 (together with any future amendments) Ethical issues (asking all candidates the same questions, interviewers not related to candidates, gender and ethnic balance on panels) Remember you need to include as many work based examples in your work as you can.

These will help your thinking to become clearer and will show that your knowledge is good. Assignment 3: Be able to prepare documentation involved in the selection and recruitment process (UP, MI,DID) You are a Human Resources Manager in a large organization and you need to circuit new employees due to increased volume in business. You need to be able to prepare the documentation for an identified vacancy from the one of the businesses you have been investigating in task 1.

You will need to include the job advert for the particular vacancy, the job description and the person specification. You must select one of the organizations you investigated in assignment one and show that you can produce documents and that you understand their appropriate use. Remember when you prepare the documents, you will need to be doing them for a specific vacancy and therefore link them together.

To complete this task you will need to; a) Create a job description and a person specification Job description Title of the job Department and location of the post Broad terms of the job Responsible to whom Responsibilities Person specification Job title Location in management line Essential and desirable attributes Attainments and qualifications Previous experience b) You also need to complete the process as if you were applying for the post. You will need to complete the application form and include any other documentation that may be required (letter of application and Curriculum Vitae).

You will need to apply for the job which has been advertised in part a). You can either apply by a C. V with a covering letter, letter of application or an application form. You may need to get the application form from the business itself or the from the company website. P? Prepare the documents used in selection and recruitment activities c) Study the documents and think about why they are used when the organization is appointing staff and in a written report compare the purposes of the different documents your chosen organization uses in the selection process.

You have no experience in preparing or taking part in an interview so you have cited to ask your friend to help you prepare for the interview and practice some techniques you will need in order to be a successful candidate. You must show that you can produce documents and that you understand their appropriate use. In this task you will need to work in groups of two as you will need to adopt the role of either an interviewee or interviewer in a mock selection interview.

You will also need to explain in a Powering some of the following before you conduct the interview Pre-interview What was the selection criteria for short-listing the candidates for the interview Why is it important to get the references before the interview Different types of interviews e. G. Group, individual, team, panel, telephone. Which interview have you decided to conduct and why? What other additional testing will you be doing if any?
