It also focuses on offering advices to this company on how to change its leadership practices to turn the company around. Before starting it must be said that, Leadership Today has been loosing shares in the market to their competitors due to an efficiently poor leadership.
The mid-level managers complain they do not have time to make proper decisions and the employees complain that their work is never recognized and celebrated. According to Robbins and Judge (2011), leadership is the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or set of goals. Seems like the leadership from Leadership Today is not able provide this influence. In order for this company to achieve success it must change the way it is being lead.
Thus, in order to this Kouzes and Posner (2010) consider that a number of 10 enduring truths about leadership will help the company or the leader to think, decide, and also to act more effectively. The first truth is about inspiring or making the leader to think that he posses skills through which he can have a positive impact on other, believe in him self and in his ability to make a difference. The next one is called “credibility is the foundation of leadership” and refers to the fact that the others need to have trust in the leader as well in order to make things flow.
The third truth is called “values drive commitment” and refers to individuals wanting to know what the leader is standing for, what he believes in and what are his values. The fourth truth is about the ability to vision exciting future possibilities, take future perspectives, and earn insight from evaluating the past and developing outsight by analyzing the context, while the fifth truth makes the leader believe he is not alone and he cannot achieve anything without receiving help from others.
The next two truth of the Kouzes and Posner model refer to trusting others in order to make them trust you and to the fact that challenge is crucible of greatness, which encourages leaders to accept challenges in order make a difference. The eight truth tells leader that they need to be an example in order to be followed, while the ninth makes the leader to believe that him and other can learn to lead to become better (leading is also about constantly learning).
The last one of them says that “leadership is an affair of the heart” and that leaders love their constituents, customers, and also the mission they are serving. Leadership Today has to pass through a process of transformation where a very big accent has to be put on developing meaning to capture imagination and also to form long-term behavior. First of all, mid-level managers have to be provided enough time to take decision because rushed decision may not be the best ones.
Also, when they employees perform at high-standards and meet company’s objectives, the company must recognize and celebrate their achievements in order to motivate them to keep performing this way. Another important aspect is customer care and even if it has not been stated in the issue, the company must properly take care of its clients because they are the ones that generate organization wealth.
If the leadership takes into consideration all the 10 truths mentioned and detailed above, and if it starts to pay more attention to the managers, employees, and also consumers, the company will be able to recover and be back in business in a timely manner.
