Although discipline and determination are vital, the most important is dependability. Dependability is a person doing what they say they are going to do. Others will trust an individual if they prove to be dependable. As students reach the age of sixteen, many will begin to learn to drive a car. Safely operating a vehicle requires discipline, knowledge, and maturity. To gain the trust and respect of their parents, new drivers need to make the right choices and act mature to demonstrate that they are dependable. The second most important characteristic is determination.
Determination is necessary to doing anything well. In the working world, one has to have determination to work hard to get a promotion. A determined student is someone who gets his or her work done no matter what obstacles they face. Students involved in extra curricular activities must have determination. These students usually arrive at home later in the day because of their extra curricular time requirements (I. E. -practice, training, competition). Thus, these students have less time in the remainder of the day to dedicate to academics.
A mature student that has determination will complete his or her assignments despite the loss of time. Another sign of determination is when the student gives their best work in all that they do, instead of just doing what is required. If an individual has determination as a student, it will carry on to the rest of their life. Finally, the last characteristic one needs to have is self-discipline. Self-discipline requires unyielding focus in an effort to improve ones performance or behavior. Those without self- discipline often fall into a procrastinating mode.
Because students are learning to be self-disciplined, it is easy for them to naturally procrastinate. They mismanage their time and try to complete our work at the last minute. They will also justify this behavior in that they no longer have appropriate time to complete their work thoroughly! A mature individual will make sure they use their time wisely and get their work done on time. That person knows that after the work is done, that’s when you can do other things on their own time. All of us are capable of being mature.
Maturity can be mistreated and measured through many behaviors and characteristics. If someone does what they are supposed to do, when they should, and do it well, then they are acting like a mature person. Mature behavior can help anyone to do well in school and in a career field after that. Mature people surely enjoy success in those areas. If someone is mature people will want to follow them, knowing they get done what needs to be done. To recap, one should be mature in everything they do so people will trust them, and be able to depend on them as a mature person.
