Explaining Cognitive and Social-Cognitive Aspects Assignment Words: 2088

Analyzing personality can be a complex process, In which there can be many answer. Personality theories seem to be possible to be applying In real life settings. This assignment is about how cognitive and social-cognitive aspects of psychology influenced Tuna Dry. Mathis Mahatma’s personality. For this assignment, I read through the different aspects of personality and found that Albert Bandanna’s self- system reflects best on Dry.

Matcher’s personality development. This system suggests r provides the reader with clues in understanding Tuna’s personality and insight into how Dry. Mathis made his major life decisions and how effective they were in achieving his goals. Whether as a prime minister or not, Dry. Matcher’s personality is well-known all across the world. Cognitive theory explains behavior as guided by cognitions about the world, especially those about others. Another way to understand this theory Is one’s expectations to those about other people (Wilder, 2003).

Cognitive theories are theories of personality that emphasizes cognitive processes such as thinking and Judging. Bandanna’s theory of social-cognitive personality Is significant in the field of cognitive psychology. Albert Bandeau (1989) suggested the forces of memory and emotions working together with the environmental influences. According to Bandeau, the self-system is the set cognitive process by which people perceives, evaluates, and cite regulates his or her behavior so that it is appropriate to the environment and effective in achieving goals (Bandeau, 1978).

The self system was originally developed by Harry Stack Sullivan in 1953 which is the individual’s collection of self-perceptions (Sullivan, 1953). As I followed Dry. Matcher’s life, I realized the way he thought of ideas to solve problems Is so much similar with a person who has social-cognitive based personality. So I choose to attempt applying Bandanna’s self-system and other relevant concepts contacting related theories to comment accordingly on Tuna’s life. Tuna Dry. Mathis Mohammad was the fourth prime minister of Malaysia and Is globally admired as well as critiqued by millions.

He was born on the 20th December 1 925 and held the post for 22 years, which made him Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister, and one of the longest serving leaders in Asia (Catastrophe, 2012). He is known as the Father of Modernization and is also known for his criticisms of western and developed countries (Hajji Gamy, 2009). During his administration, he was considered as one of Sais’s most influential leaders. Dry. Mathis is also noted in the western world as an outspoken critic of western civilization (Mislaying, 2006).

As a child, Mathis was the youngest among 8 siblings, where 6 of them were half-siblings and 2 were full-siblings (Win, 2010). Mathis was a hard-working student where discipline Imposed by his father motivated him to study, and he showed little Interest In sports. He graduated from gig school with high marks and enrolled to study at the King Edward VII College of Medicine In Singapore where he met his wife, Slot Hash Mohammad All. After he in 1956 (Operand Leadership Foundation, 2010). He then returns to his hometown as the town’s first Malay doctor and was successful.

He and Sit Hash had their first child, Marina, in 1957, before conceiving three others and adopting three more over the following 28 years (Win, 2010). Bandeau gives an important role in the social- cognitive aspects of personality. Dry. Matcher’s personality may be very well reflected in this aspect. For instance, Dry. Mathis is a person who would act or perceive things first from the environment to McCollum his behavior to fit in into the environment for a better opportunity to strive towards achievement or goals.

This event can be based on Bandanna’s self-system and certain aspects of Matcher’s life could be perceived as one of them. An event before he decided to further his studies in medicine, Dry. Matcher’s original goal was to become a lawyer. Due to the pressure from his father who wanted him to excel in the medical industry, he applied for both medicine and law hopping for a scholarship (Mathis Mohammad, 2003). But what lies head is unknown still I suggest, Dry. Mathis wanted to be a faithful son and judging at that time, demand for doctors are far more than a lawyer.

So he made the decision and I believe he did not regret as he met the love of his life who is Tuna Dry. Sit Hash. Besides that, in the year 1969, Dry. Mathis was expelled from the party due to his criticism on leaders and on the system (Morals, 1982). Here, I perceived Dry. Mathis did not give up on returning into the party because he wrote a book, The Malay Dilemma which he set out his vision for the Malay community which argued the balance between races in the government and nation’s economy.

Because of that, his first book was promptly banned after its release (M. Baker MUSM, 1999). His actions seem to be regulating after the event occurred and temporary silent himself from politics. From there, it is seems as though Dry. Mathis is waiting for the right opportunity to renter back into the party and he really did after Tuna Abdul Raze became the second prime minister and encouraged Mathis to return to the party (Milne ; Muzzy, 1999). The self-system applies because, it is seems that Dry.

Mathis could anticipate the possibilities of his behavior and the consequences and hereby chosen an action based on the anticipated response of the environment and others to it (Bernstein, 1980). In this event, his action which he chosen to reacted was to silent himself for that particular moment, maybe to restart his new image right after he had the chance to prove himself yet again. Besides that, looking back at Dry. Matcher’s actions, I suggest his personality was also influence by observational learning and vicarious learning.

Observational learning is defined as learning a new behavior based on watching another person behaving that behavior (Smith & Sorensen, n. D. ). This was shown by Mathis when he introduced Malaysia with their very first local car manufacturer (Operand Leadership Malaysia, 2010). In other words, a Malaysian made car. Dry. Mathis learnt to do so, by observing other countries who manufacturers their very own car and this helps to improve the country’s economy and provided, offer the consumers with affordable cars. From here, we can observe how Dry.

Matcher’s cognition helped him to help Malaysian improve our very selves. This was the very first step to Matcher’s goal to modernize Malaysia. Vicarious learning where one achieve learning by watching a person performs and experiencing secondhand the pain or happiness (Mans ; Sims, 1981). Here, I (2012) newspaper where he decline or rejected the offer of becoming an international mediator and insisted, he is not suitable for the role. There might be a few other ways to describe this but, the reason of him doing so is whereby he stated, “world will not listen to me and people will do what they like… O, I would discount such role. ” (The Malaysian Times, 2012). There might been a possibility where he learn and felt by secondhand how previous leaders experience their failure and how they lost heir dignity. An article was published years ago about reasons of failure and how one must acquire certain qualities to be a successful mediator. The first quality was, the member of the mediator should not be a partisan (Nathan, 1999). Currently, Dry. Mathis is free from all parties but still a previous partition which broken the very first strategy.

There might be a slight chance, Dry. Mathis realized this, and learnt from previous mediator’s failure who were partisan, for example, Benedict Arnold (Clement Library, 1779). Which lead him to his rejection. Virtually, all people can identify goals they want to accomplish, things they would like to change, and things they would like to achieve. However, most people also realized that putting these plans into action is not quite so simply. According to Bandeau, self-efficacy is a person’s belied in his or her ability to succeed in a particular situation (Bandeau, 1995).

Bandeau described these beliefs as determinants of how people think, behave and feel (1994). This is correlated to Dry. Mathis and his career choice. Even though Dry. Mathis graduated as a medical doctor, but he is much more interested in lattice debates and committed him into it. An article explains about one who has a higher self-efficacy will have a higher rate to succeed in their desired choice of career in life (Bullock-Howell, Andrews, ; Baguette, 2011). To further explain how high his self-efficacy, among all of the politicians, is Dry.

Mathis is currently the only politician who is a prime minister without any royalty status. This brings out the possibilities where the previous prime ministers were able to be because of royal blood relation. Here I related Matcher’s self-efficacy and his career in politics. He gave up a career which provides a stable income and took his chances in an all in or nothing career. This suggests that his self-efficacy in succeeding in the political career is superbly high which enabled him to be who he is today. Besides that, Dry. Matcher’s self efficacy has been high since his teenage life.

Matcher’s academic achievements have been simultaneously achieving which might be related to his personality which caused him to acquire a higher self-efficacy at a very young age. A research proofs that a child who has a higher self-efficacy in the academic can be a teeter achiever even the socio-economic status is not high (Capybara, Eviction, Alasdair, Gearing, & Barreling, 2011). Dry. Matcher’s family background during the earlier is categorized as a low socio-economic status where he had to sell homemade foods to the public to go by another day.

This part proofs how Dry. Mathis is influenced by his self-efficacy and is supported with the research. Other than the above mentioned, Dry. Matcher’s personality is rather mysteriously unique due to bazaars event where everyone would never thought he was able to overturn Malaysia’s economics within his years of ruling Malaysia. Especially when he was kicked out from the party, everyone thought it was the end of him. But, it isn’t. All of these came into and end when Mathis decided to resign as the prime minister and Dry.

Mathis is controlling his level of achievement in life because Just maybe his goals were accomplished. This thought leads me to think about Bandanna’s self- regulation process. This is a process which people tends to control their own achievements and actions like setting goals for themselves, evaluating their very own success and rewarding themselves if they managed to achieved them (MacKenzie, Mezzo, ; Francis, 2012). The structure of self-regulation focuses more on internal than the external (Friedman ; Shattuck, 2011).

This meaner that it is more on self influencing its personality then the society influencing its personality. When Mathis was elected as prime minister, he emphasized on economic development in particularly the export sector, as well as large scale infrastructure projects (Milne ; Muzzy, 1999). As we can see today, Mathis goals might have been achieved for Malaysia and maybe he had new goals, which might be spending more time with his family members. A particular article talks about drawing lines in political settings and how the role of self-regulation takes its place.

It suggest that, politicians draw lines between what they should be achieved and having others to succeed their place to give the younger generation a chance to succeed as well (Rock ; Cannon- Pullman, 2010). As his hard work on Malaysia might be leading him venturing out from his family members. If this were the case, self-regulation might be taking in process. Let us say, his family members are his reward, having him modernizing Malaysia and his retired status brings him back with his family members as he awarded himself for his hard work.

If we see it in another point of view, having him setting a new goal in life where his family members are the very first priority, we can see that, Mathis had finished his current goals in life and creating a new lifetime goal to fulfill. After relating Bandanna’s and other psychologists’ theories about cognitive and social-cognitive theories, indeed it provided insights about Dry. Matcher’s perception and his personality impacted some of the decisions in his life. Yet, other parts of aspects of personality were also able to decipher Tuna’s actions or sections.
