Man and the Natural World Nature itself is more powerful than man but we are part of the natural world therefore man and the natural world is connected. We need to take care of nature as we take care of ourselves for nature is more powerful so then it can strike back to us like the west wind. The west wind represents the period of winter but we know that winter is always followed by spring. Spring symbolizes rebirth, life and growth. So we humans like nature always have a spring in our life, having hope that gives us a new spirit as an that is a part of the beautiful and peaceful natural world. Transformation Just like nature’s changing season, we humans have a transformation in our life, changing generations and ideas. We can be one with nature and feel the freedom of our life as we transform to our spring season. The poet transforms himself with the west wind hoping that his ideas will spread and bring spring to others. He wants to become the wind that brings hope, the winter that brings suffering but carries the hope to continue living. – Mortality The west wind represents winter. As a result the poem is filled with death f both human and nature mortality.

In the poem it was symbolizes by dead leaves and storms but the poet use this living thoughts as a nature’s ways of giving us hope. The connections of nature and man somehow differ but always have the same thought. The west wind that brings winter that symbolizes death is followed by spring that represents life and man flowers but always fade and man’s common with nature because a man can change the course of his life. The Ode to the west wind suggest that death but not a literal death creates an opportunity for new life and rebirth.
