Ralph Waldo Emerson “Self Reliance” Assignment

Ralph Waldo Emerson “Self Reliance” Assignment Words: 373

Self-Reliance” In Ralph Wald Emerson essay the “Self-Reliance I found him and his essay to be quite interesting and intriguing. He had such persuading arguments to stimulate any individual’s mind. To me Ralph Wald Emerson was smart, caring, passionate, an innovative essayist, and poet as well. In his essay he states, “Trust thyself: everyone heart vibrates to that iron string. Accept the place the divine Providence has found for you; the society of your contemporaries, the connection of events” (Pearson Learning Solution 2013).

Emerson wanted people to learn to trust themselves, to be more confident, and overall just learn to have faith and be more Self-Reliance in oneself and not the help of others. There were two quotes in the same passage in Ralph Wald Emerson essay that caught my eye and the first one was, “Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict everything you said today”. (Pearson Learning Solution 2013).

This quote is very powerful to me because I feel what Emerson is saying no matter hat you say your word does matter today, tomorrow and forever so don’t let anyone stop you from saying what and how you’re feeling “just say it”. The second quote is “Be yourself; no base imitator of another, but your best self. There is something which you can do better than another. Listen to the inward voice and bravely obey that. Do the things at which you are great, not what you were never made for” (Pearson Learning Solution 2013).

I so love this quote because it’s telling you that you don’t have to pretend to be somebody else or second guess yourself just find something that you’re good at and do. I really enjoyed reading Ralph Wald Emerson essay because I’ve learned that you can achieve anything with the help of Self-Reliance and having trust within yourself. Emerson essay definitely showed me that he was smart, caring, passionate, an innovative essayist as well a poet, because he made sure to show persuading arguments to stimulate individuals mind on Self-Reliance and to do what works for you as well as make you happy.
