Allotted Martin Luther King Jar- He began his career as a Baptist preacher . He dedicated his life to achieving equality and Justice for all Americans of all colors. King believed that peaceful refusal to obey unjust law was the best way to bring about social change. King was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi ;s success with non-violent activism . On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks , an African American woman was arrested for refusing to give up her seat too white man . Ere is when the Montgomery bus boycott takes place , it was planned y Nixon and led by King , it lasted 385 days and the situation became so tense that King’s house was bombed and he was arrested . TLS boycott concludes with a United States District Court ending with racial segregation on Montgomery public buses . In 1957 , King and others activist create CLC ( Southern Christian Leadership Conference) The group was created to harness the moral authority and organizing power of black churches to conduct non-violent protests in the service of civil rights reform. King led the CLC until his death.
King believed that organized, nonviolent rotes against the system of southern segregation known as Jim Crow laws would lead to extensive media coverage of the struggle for black equality and voting rights. Journalistic accounts and televised footage of the daily deprivation and indignities suffered by southern blacks, and of segregationist violence and harassment of civil rights workers and marchers, produced a wave of sympathetic public opinion that convinced the majority of Americans that the Civil Rights Movement was the most important issue in American politics in the early asses.
King organized and led arches for blacks’ right to vote, desegregation, labor rights and other basic call rights. Most of these rights were successfully enacted into the law of the united States with the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. King and the CLC put into practice many of the principles of the Christian Left and applied the tactics of nonviolent protest with great success by strategically choosing the method of protest and the places in which protests were carried out. There were often dramatic stand-offs with segregationist authorities.
Sometimes these confrontations turned violent. Throughout his participation in the civil rights movement, King was criticized by many groups. This included opposition by more militant blacks such as Nation of Islam member Malcolm X and others. In the early evening of April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jar. Was killed by a single shot which struck his face and neck. He was standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel In Memphis.
