The cities were beginning to grow rapidly and there wasn’t any planning so it began to get out of hand. The workers also lived in these things called slums that weren’t in the best shape. The streets of the cities weren’t that nice either. For example, in Document 4, it describes what the streets looked like and says, ‘The streets are usually unpaved, full Of holes, filthy… ” Due to there being so many people, the crime was high. There were also many deaths because of the working conditions.

An example would be in Document 2 when the man is being questioned and tells them about a nouns boy that was killed in the factory. He says, ” There was about a dozen died… A boy was caught in the machine and had both his thigh bones broke and from his knee to his hip the flesh was ripped up the same as it had been cut by a knife. ” As you can see, the working conditions weren’t very safe and many times people got hurt or killed. Despite all the negative effects, there were also positive effects to the Industrial Revolution. One very positive effect was the huge production in goods.

This led to decreased prices which made living conditions more affordable. There were also a lot of jobs because of the Industrial Revolution. During this time, many inventions were made. A lot of those inventions have been fixed up or changed a little but are still being used in modern day. Another positive effect was transportation. For example in Document 5 it says, ‘You can travel cheaply from place to place and not only travel at less expense, but travel ten times quicker than two hundred years ago. ” Over the years, transportation has evolved and gotten a lot easier.
