They do whatever they can to make their race look superior than the others. For affirmative action Affirmative action as a whole strives to make the disadvantaged races more accepted in their communities and social surroundings. Affirmative Action gives these disadvantaged races a chance at a professional job, well-taught education and happiness. Affirmative action programs give them a chance at something they may have never imagined or had a chance at achieving. The disadvantaged races now have an opportunity to realize their potential.

The disadvantaged students now have a chance a better life and broadened horizons as they grow older. Affirmative action also makes it easier to adapt to multiculturalism and diversity in society. It introduces opposite races to each other so it does not come as such a surprise when they are socially introduced in public places. Against affirmative action The ones against affirmative action believe they are discriminating against these races already, by giving them “extra” opportunities because of their color or accent.

The disadvantaged races now get “special” treatment because of their differences from Caucasian people but the government fails to treat all races as equal individuals just because of earlier problems. The increase of “special” treatment to the disadvantaged races is greatly increasing the amount of hostility between all races worldwide. The people against affirmative action also believe that by giving them an added advantage in society potentially lowers their success rate because they do not see the need to try as hard.

Cant’s Point of view Emmanuel Kant says you should live by the maxims you would want to become universal laws. The universal law that Kant would want to be followed, would be; treat others as you wish to be treated. Kant would believe in affirmative action because the end result is a happier society and individuals. Knowing that the outcome of affirmative action programs will utter society and discourage further discrimination and unfair treatment to the disadvantaged races.

Cant’s end conclusion would be that affirmative action programs are in fact moral because it is better to live by a universal law that does good for society rather than a law that further hurts people. Utilitarian’s Point of view A utilitarian believes that the most moral action is the one that does the most good for the largest amount of people. In this situation, a utilitarian would have to estimate the size of the group being discriminated against versus the size of the group not affected by affirmative action.

By the accompanying graph, a utilitarian would believe the size of the group not affected by affirmative action is much larger than the group affected. In Canada, the discriminated races only take up approximately 10. 9% of the total population. With this information, the conclusion for a utilitarian would be that affirmative action as a whole is immoral because it does not affect a big enough group of people. Personal Analysis believe affirmative action is a great idea for disadvantaged races because it gives them a feeling of importance in the society they live in.

For a number of ears in history, these races have lived with a burden from society because of their accent or skin color. Their ancestors, relatives and themselves deal with and have dealt with insults, threats and “put-downs” because of historical events and personal opinions. I believe ethical egoism plays a role in the treatment of these races because people do not see the after effects of the things they say and do not consider what they say before they say it. Ethical egoism gives them a reason to only think of themselves, instead of others which can contribute to discrimination.
