This assignment will be covering the following topics Beliefs, values and attitudes Developing critical thinking Management versus Leadership “If you want something in life you have to work for it” has always been one of my values and beliefs that have stuck to me everywhere I go. This to me is simply another way of saying in order to get something; you’ll have to earn it.
This has become such an important belief/value in my life, and it is has inspired me to work art to get what I want. Personally, I think people these days are beyond spoiled, and they think “Oh, if I want something, then I got to have it”, but no, it shouldn’t be that way. Belief, values and attitudes What are beliefs? Beliefs are what we think “know “to be true. They our convictions even if others disagree our personal beliefs play a huge role in how we view our own life. Our own estimation of our successes and failures will depend entirely on the framework of our personal beliefs.
Our beliefs provide a structured process through which we evaluate everything in our lives. Because these beliefs are based on our evaluation, and motional conclusions of our personal experiences, they are accepted by our subconscious as being absolutely true. Our subconscious mind then uses these personal “truths” to construct your personal version of the real world. In other words, your beliefs become the foundation of our internal map of reality. In some cases, a belief starts out much like a theory. Assumptions are made based on logical observations and deductions.
In other cases, a new belief grows out of an emotional viewpoint that seems to be supported by logic. When beliefs get stronger, they translate into certain principles or philosophies to be followed consistently in life ladled values. (http://www. Studded. We might have as a value the concept of equality ND believe that all people should be treated equally. This does not mean that I will always treat people equally, since personal values represent ideals that are not always applicable to the everyday practicalities of my life. Nationalities often have different values which mean communication between nations is sometimes difficult.
We value the freedom of people to have as many children as they wish while China has introduced the value of a one child limit because the value of inhibiting population growth is more important to them. When we talk of beliefs and values, it is important to realism that the beliefs and values of our society are continually changing and we need to ask ourselves if we have the ultimate, perfect set of values and beliefs. Perhaps we need to examine our beliefs, values and also look at the beliefs, values of others.
We need to listen to other’s point of view to find out what their values are. Here is an opportunity to use your listening and management skills. Perhaps the other person has something that we find interesting and valuable I work with staff from all over the world and some of their lives are very deep to them to the point they don’t want to change so I have to work around their beliefs and fit them with us My previous practice experience has had impact on my personal values; most notably how I treat people that I have contact with and the way I respond to situations where discrimination and inequality has occurred.
The impact this has on my values and attitudes is: BELIEF ATTITUDES VALUES IMPACT ON MY BEHAVIOR Respect others the way u want to be respected I always treat everyone fair and respectful A commitment to the value Commitment to doing good for everyone Respected
People can feel threatened because everyone respect me Honesty Honestly Set the record straight Don’t confuse preferences with reality Always thinking that everyone is honest Speaking the truth Being honest requires courage To avoid stepping on the feelings of others with our honesty also requires me to be very carefully Fair and leader Lead by example I don’t ask my staff to do nothing I don’t do I’m fair and always try to please People sometimes takes advantage Having beliefs and values that we personally follow is important because our behavior really depends on the beliefs and values we pursue and set Everything we do links back to hat we believe, on other hand, values are our own Judgments of what we think is vital in life. I believe I may face in attempting to maximize the general well, I will at some point, need to decide whether my goal is to improve the total benefit to my company as a whole or the total benefit per person within the company. This will allow me to have a direct impact on my approach to making very important business decisions. Management’s theories that is relevant to my role. I looked in two theories Abraham Moscow, and Integers to help me doing this assignment Midwinter’s roles can help categories managers into areas of their trench which would enable them to know which areas to develop.
This theory suggest that managerial roles can be particularly varied and often contradictory in its demands, therefore it is not always the role of managers but the complexity of individuals which can trouble managers at wormy belief and values help me with my management development with is focus around the improvement and training and educating myself with an emphasis on acquiring specific types of knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as the capability to problem solve, to enhance task performance in management roles. Managerial roles are refers to specific categories of managerial behavior. According to Integers there are Ten Management Roles (Winsomely & Woodard,1998) a compiled listed of behaviors within a business environment, which can be grouped into three section interpersonal relationships, transfer or informational and decision making.
These roles are demonstrated in the table below: Informational Interpersonal Decisional Monitor Dissemination Spokesperson LeaderFigureheadLiaison EntrepreneurNegotiatorResource Electrocardiogram’s Handler Definitions of each role an been found on internet but I kick the one I deal with on daily basis Leader: Duties are at the heart of the manager- subordinate relationship and include structuring and motivating subordinates, overseeing their progress, promoting and encouraging their development, and balancing effectiveness. Liaison: Describes the information and communication obligations of a manager. One must network and engage in information exchange to gain access to knowledge bases Monitor: Duties include assessing internal operations, a department’s success and the problems and opportunities which may arise. All the information gained in this capacity must be stored and maintained. Midwinter’s roles can help categories managers into areas of their strength which would enable them to know which areas to develop.
This theory suggest that managerial roles can be particularly varied and often contradictory in its demands, therefore it is not always the role of managers but the complexity of individuals which can trouble managers at works with many theories there are two sides to every argument, sometimes even more and this is no different for leadership. Scholars have two opposing observations about Leadership: one of which is that people need to work hard to develop qualities before they can emerge as leaders Hendrickson, 2006; Kebabs, 1999; Kebabs and Myers, 1996), whereas Grin (2002) holds the belief that leaders are born. Autocratic or Authoritarian: This type of leadership style is when leaders tell their followers what type of task needed to be accompanied or performed, how they want it done, without the imputes of their follower or their follower’s suggestion.
This is a very unique way of government; it is used when leaders mainly want to gain motivation from followers and more commitment from them. There seems to be misunderstanding of this leadership style with the present day workplaces of “bossing employee around” without any inconsideration of human feelings or respect for humanity. The weakness to this type of leadership style is that most people perceive this type of leadership has been bossy and too much authoritative. Delegating or Free Reign type of leadership describe leaders allowing follower to make decision and are still responsible of decision that was taking. The leader set priorities as per what needs to be accompanied, time of execution and the final deadline for production.
This type of leadership style must be used wisely especially when dealing with trust and having confidence in followers. The only limitation is that as a leader, failures of followers automatically become leader’s responsibilities. To sum up, although adapt the leadership styles has its advantages, it also has its negative effects. However, with the development of global economic, managers should adapt their leadership styles to suit situations and people, because of situation and subordinates become totally different from last decades. This change of the opinion of management will lead a variety and specific leadership style, which make subordinates work more effective, become a new current in the later decades.
