The Catcher in the Rye, written by J. D. Slinger, a sixteen-year old boy voices the story of his life. The main character and narrator, Holder Coalfield, dreams of being the catcher in the rye. Since Holder narrates it, it is obviously in first person like Holder is talking to you. Holder is real, you feel like you know him. He talks and acts like a sixteen year old and talks like he is in a conversation with you. Slinger does a great Job with a story line, characters, themes and symbolism in this story. The kook has a lot of voice and was extremely well-written.

It was a strong story from start to finish and you feel like you are getting to know Holder, and in the story with him. The theme of the story – innocence. Slinger does a great Job in creating a theme for this story. Never mind being a great read, the theme makes the book that much more interesting. I remember reading this in class and enjoying the story a lot. Then, coming to school and discussing what happened and deciphering the story and revealing all the themes. I loved going to that class and could not wait to talk more bout this book.
