I learned a new meaning for the word poverty when I at a red-light and a man with ragly clothes and dirty fingers and skin holding up a sign that says spare change GOD bless but I learned that there’s more meaning to the word than I knew. There are three different definitions to poverty: absolute cultural and social definition of poverty. Absolute definition of poverty establishes a fixed economic level below which people are considered poor.
Being at this particular doesn’t mean your poor but your basically borderline whereas relative definition means people are poor relative to a certain standard, and that standard is partially shaped by the lifestyles of other citizens and lastly there’s social definition of poverty views poverty not only in terms of how many resources people have, but in why they failed to achieved a higher economic level.
Poverty is more common among some racial and ethnic minorities, children single female households and urban rural communities among the poor you also find the working poor, unemployed and the homeless from what’s just mind boggling to me as a I read along I see it has to also do with ethnicity the poll showed that in 2005b white ethnics lead the poverty level whereas black ethnics follow behind 34% of the “poor” are children under the stage of 13 and more than ? f these children live in a single parent household headed by women. In 2005 12% of all families in poverty were headed by women today it has jumped to over 50% only in terms of how many resources people have but in why they failed to achieved a higher economic level poverty is more common among some racial and ethnic minorities, children, and central “urban” rural communities. Among the poor you also find the working poor unemployed and the homeless.
Look at things in functionalist perspective poverty exists to have people intimidated to live in society. If people doesn’t reach out to society they disciplined by receiving a small title of poverty exists because it performs some positive functions for society. In a conflict perspective poverty exists in some groups they are deprived of the choice to get resources that allows them to live a comfortable lifestyle.
