There was no sign language practice, nothing in the trucks to help people with a hearing disability, and they did not provide scanners that vibrated on the job instead of just beeping. Now because there were 19 complaints by deaf or hard-of-hearing workers accompanied, the EEOC had no choice but to open up the case on Fed ground.

A spokesperson for the company said this past Monday that the company plans on going against the allegations. Also, legal experts have studied similar cases over the years, and accommodating employees cases are all too similar even after the DAD went into effect to prevent workplace discrimination. Debra Lawrence, who is an EEOC attorney stated, “Common sense, let alone Federal Legal Requirements, would dictate that Fed Ground should have provided effective accommodations to enable people with hearing disabilities to obtain workplace information that is disseminated in meetings and training stations. Agree with this completely. There is no reason that they should be sitting in a room filled with people, and not be able to participate because they do not have a translator in the room, or something else as simple as that. What did they think was going to happen? I believe Fed should have seen this coming. Without knowing, or completely disregarding the problem in general, they were making their employees unhappy. “They have hindered disabled workers job performance. ” Fed is an extremely large corporation, and with that, installing new equipment or adapting to people’s needs might incur significant costs on the many.

If a company is smaller they might not have to worry as much, but Fed is worth about $1 1. 6 billion according to the EEOC. Now, I believe in Equal rights for all employees because I would never want to be discriminated against for my race, my beliefs etc. It makes no sense. Fifth person IS willing to do the job, and to do the job right, there is no reason why they should not be able to do it to the best of their ability. In conclusion, the DAD states, ‘You cannot terminate or otherwise mistreat someone because of their disability. Companies are required to make seasonable accommodation for workers to do their jobs. If employers believe that there is a way around this, they are in for a long run in the business world. Diversity creates a pathway for new ideas, new innovations, and comparability in the workplace. If you have an employee come in off different race, and they see that there is another person just like them, they are more willing to feel welcome in the business and open to more things. As opposed to if they are of a different race, and they walk into an office of strictly African American females not willing to accept anyone else.
