Geography is the study of the Earth and its lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena. A literal translation would be “to describe or write about the Earth” and climate encompasses the statistics of temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, rainfall, atmospheric particle count and other meteorological elements in a given region over long periods of time. The climate of a location is affected by its latitude, terrain, and altitude, as well as nearby water bodies and their currents. Climates can be classified according to the average and the typical ranges of different variables, most commonly temperature and precipitation.
The film “The Big Breeze” is different in terms of its treatment of climate change when compared with other films on the topic. It is because it shows how geography affects climate change and vice versa. In other documentary films about climate change, it shows how human activities affect our climate like pollutions and etc. It has long been assumed that climate is largely controlled by location or geography. In the film, it clearly shows how climate change affects the structure of the earth. For example, the ice left its marks to cover the island.
As the ice sheets grew it took up millions of cubic meter of water. It will have a global effect on changing the shape of the continents. One particular example of this change is in the island of Barbados, a coral island, pushed out of sea by volcanic activity in a far away time shows how climate change the structure of the island. The coral reefs growing in the island will and emerged and later on become a dry land. Repeated terraces must mean repeated changes in sea level and repeated change in sea level may not be one but many ice sheets racks in a way.
Barbados is the only island that has multiple of terraces. The island of Barbados has been lifting up and it’s producing a unique record of sea level and climate change. It is also an unusual island because slowly uplifted in the sea by tectonic forces. Every time sea level rise and fall new terraces emerge. You could see series steps of corals reefs that go up in the elevation and also go back on time. There are more examples in the film that show the effect of geography in climate change. The rules of man fall in the overall explanation regarding climate change.
The rule of man is the absence of rule of law. Human being today is very unconscious of what is happening to our world today. The improvement of technology means the distraction of environment. They create such gadgets and machines that can affect our environment in a negative way. People are growing in a selfish way and many people everywhere in the world do not care of the law anymore. We care of what will be good for us and what is convenient for us. As result of all this things, our environment will be affected and there’s climate change that will happen which will affect our lives.
