As we all know nursing accumulations helps to evaluate whether patients are meeting their outcomes or how they are responding to treatments. The more skilled the writing of the nurse, the more accurate, complete and viable her documentation will be perceived and therefore valued. Accurate record keeping and careful documentation is an essential part of nursing practice. The Nursing and Midwifery Council states that ‘good record documentation helps to protect the welfare of patients and clients’ – which of course is a fundamental aim for nurses everywhere. Registered nurses have a legal and professional duty of care.
According to Nursing and Midwifery Council Guidelines, your record keeping and documentation should demonstrate: -a full description of your assessment and the care planned and given – relevant information about your patient or client at any given time and what you did in response to their needs. -that you have understood and fulfilled your duty of care, that you have taken all reasonable steps to care for the patient or client and that any of your actions or things you failed to do have not compromised their safety in any way. – a record of any arrangement that you have made for the continuing care of he patient or client. Onto think that us registered nurses can effectively document all this if we don’t possess the skill of academic writing. Also investigations into complaints about care will look at and use the patient/ client documents and records as evidence, so high quality documentation is essential. The hospital or care home, the Nursing and Midwifery Council, a court of law, or the health service commissioner may investigate the complaint, so it makes sense to get the records right. A court of law will tend to assume that if care has not been recorded then it has not been given.
Lack f this skill can cause a patient their life and a nurse their profession. Lastly, If can bring to your attention that If the skill of academic writing is not important, then why have we all been bombarded with all this academic writing assessments when its only our first semester in this degree. Do you guys think that if academic writing is not important in nursing and will not help us become more productive nurses we would still have to do all this essays? In saying that ladies and gentlemen, us nurses do have to know how to write academically in order for us to effectively communicate in the medical institution.
Nurses are called upon to not only care for the physical needs of patients, but also further responsible to create legal, medical, and academic knowledge in the form Of workplace documents such as charts, lab reports, and nursing research. Conclusion: Ladies and gentlemen, through these reasons, my team and I propose, it is clear that health professionals need to know how to write academically. In the medical institution, communication is very vital; it is a skill that nurses should always strive to master whether it is verbal or written. Thank you!
