In my assignment group we had all Beeline team roles which helped us perform well throughout our project and also helped us to identify other am members’ behavioral strengths and weaknesses. During the initial stages of the group getting together I believed it was important that we all had a clear Objective and somewhat Of a pathway Of what we wanted to achieve and that everyone shared duties within the group.
My group members had roles such as researching the market to see father is a demand for Young which was our product for university students, they also dealt with the financial side of our product and making analysis between our product and our competitor’s product. As part of my assignment group I mound myself falling more into the three different roles such as complete finisher, co-ordination and implementer as Beeline described (Mulling, 2013, p. 36) this means was always analyzing details of the project that some of my team members fail to do so, I was focusing on our objectives and tried to direct the team towards them and also was determined to implement ideas into practice such as designing the template app idea for our project, designing the marketing video and our advert. However I believe somehow undertook the role of a group leader too from the start because as soon as e formed our group and started to have meetings I always seemed to guide everyone on what they should focus their work on in that particular week .
Furthermore, I quickly realizes that it’s essential for me as well as for the team to keep track of the meetings minutes in order to reflect on when we check what we have worked on that week, therefore kept track of all meetings. I believe I was also more of a democratic leader because I was always listening to my team members and I was interacting with the group by engaging everyone when a decision had to be made (Mulling, 201 3, p. 377).
I eel like I also motivated the group to work hard toward our goal by making sure their psychological needs were met (Moscow, 1 968), for example a tired and hungry team member will find it difficult to focus on working efficiently on the project, they also need to feel emotionally and physically safe and accepted within the group to progress and reach their full potential. As part of my group working I really enjoyed designing the template of the app as well as time keeping for our group.
I am a creative person which it clearly showed in our group that as soon as we had to design something I was the iris to volunteer to carry out those duties. The fact that I am patient and that can pay a lot of attention to details gives me an advantage when it comes to using my imagination to create an app template because, I can try different app styles, colors until I believe it looks good up to my expectations, then I consult my ideas with my group members.
I realized that the more easily members can communicate freely with each other the greater the likely hood of group cohesiveness (Mullions, 201 3, p. 311). On the other hand there were a few things that did not like about my group working, the main ones are that mom of my group members were not very committed to keep up with the time we agreed on to have our meeting. After looking more into this I feel like this was our storming stage (TCPMAN, 1965) where everyone was kind of establishing their own standards and developed their own norms of acceptable behavior.
This clearly didn’t go so well because it made me, perhaps some other team members too, to lose enthusiasm towards meeting our goal which was to create a successful university app. Unfortunately there was a second thing I did not like, which was that one of our team members cited to drop out of the course in the middle of our project which made us change some Of our workload responsibilities. However looking back, I believe that was the right choice for her at that time which I cannot change.
My assignment group was very fortunate as we didn’t face any conflicts within our group. However am aware that there could have been many different types of conflicts such as; different personality issue, different point of views or some people just don’t get along which leads to dysfunctional conflict (Husking & Buchanan, 2007), this can of course affect the productivity of a am or individual. I now realizes that we all focused on everyone’s feelings of how fairly they were treated (Adams’ Equity theory) within the team.
It is necessary, I believe, to make everyone treated equally, respected and to feel part of the team because in my opinion that makes a strong relationship between the team members and it avoids conflicts. Overall if I reflect back on our group work I believe we worked very well as a team and my contribution to the group was significantly high because I had an aim in my mind which I focused on until the end. As I worked the extra mile for our project, it resulted that it gave us, as a team, a bit more time in preparation for our presentation and finalizing the app which was crucial at that time for us.
This experience has allowed me to learn a few things about me. I learnt that I could work very effectively in a team better than thought before which makes me very happy because this will be really useful later on when I will work in a big company as part of their team. I also understood that if the situation runs a bit from control I panic a bit, thinking that we wouldn’t be able to finish the project in mime, and learning this about myself, makes me think how I can put this under control next time.
