I have found that taking online classes can be very advantageous. Before a person makes the decision to take classes online they should look at all the advantages and disadvantages. One of the biggest advantages for me has been the ability to attend Thomas Edison State Collage while still living In Texas. If online classes were unavailable I would not be able to take advantage of the 71 credit hours that Thomas Edison awarded me from my military training. I checked at other schools and the most any other school would awarded me was 31 credit hours.
I have found that online classes are more advantageous for people with full time Jobs and females. This Is because I don’t have a set time every week when I need to attended a class. I do not have very many free hours In a day with a full time Job and a 15-month-old child. With online classes I can always stay up late to learn the Information or wake up extra early. With online classes I don’t have to wake up and get dress to go to school. I can just open my computer and began any assignments I have. I am not wasting time getting ready or traveling.
I also save on gas money because, I drive a truck and gas is $3. 50 a gallon. One of the disadvantages I have found with online classes is you don’t get the face to face time with an instructor that can be very valuable to understand an assignment. In a classes room setting someone might ask a question that would better help you understand an assignment; but you did not know how to ask the same question. With online classes that same question would be emailed to the professor and you would never see it, and therefore would still not understand the assignment.
Another disadvantage with not having the face-to-face time in a class’s room some people tend to procrastinate more. There is not a class room with a professor reminding you when assignments are due or when exams are coming up. You have to be very accountable to yourself to get the assignments done on time and be prepared for exams. These are a few advantages and disadvantages that people should consider before someone starts taking online classes. I am sure there are many other advantages and disadvantages but these are ones that I insider.
