Duty is a word of importance I my field of profession. It can determine if you save a life or save millions of dollars for the people you work for. Being on time and where you are supposed to be is very important while serving in the army or any other branch of service . The military waste millions of dollars on appointments every year. This Plan of action is ambiguous and confusing. From the oral statements that were made from you I believe you wish for me to write 2000essay (Importance of Accountability in the army) i. . : appropriate place of duty, proper place and proper time. I Pride myself on being a soldier that is accountable for his actions at all times. The reason for this essay is, I did not follow proper orders and was not at my correct place of duty for work call or medical appointment on time, due to miscommunication through higher, but there is still no excuse for me to be undisciplined and not informing my chain of command to let them know where I had to be . A soldier should be at right place and right time as soldier.
There are many reasons why myself and other soldiers to include jr and senior should be at your place of duty at the right time as a soldier. The most important reason being the soldier’s safety and accountability. That’s why it’s implemented by the NCO’s appointed over them. NCO’s tells you that you need to be at a location, on time; therefore you need to be there. Our NCO’s are only trying to help us. NCO’s want what is best for their soldier’s. This shows structure in soldiers in and the soldiers’ unit. As soldiers there are daily missions that call for them to be at the right place and right time.
It’s not a good look on a soldier when they can’t do a simple task such right place and right time or making the appointments that have been made to help them better their health and well being as a soldier. This actually shows that the soldier can’t be depended on when they are needed. This hinders a soldier when they are being look at for any promotions or special awards. As a soldier you want to make a great impression on leaders and not being able to make it on time is not acceptable. It would make things run much smoother when solders are at the appropriate place of duty on time all the time.
If no one is at the right place and right time it sets the mission back. Accountability, being at the appropriate place of duty and punctuality are the hallmarks if not the key elements of being a successful professional soldier. reason being, the united states armed forces are held to a higher standards and these key elements are extremely vital to military bearing and discipline. It also has a direct correlation on combat readiness, mission effectiveness, and essentially every facet of military life and responsibility. I will break each one down and why they are important. . ACCOUNTABILITY. The (DOD) definition of accountability: The obligation imposed by law or lawful order or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or funds. The person having this obligation may or may not have actual possession of the property, documents, or funds. Accountability is concerned primarily with records, while responsibility is concerned primarily with custody, care, and safekeeping. Accountability is the most important part in the Army. Accountability is a very important part of an enlisted and a NCO’s job.
The enlisted soldier is responsible for all items issued to him or her whether it is a weapon, clothes, TA-50, BII, etc. The NCO’s responsibility is to make sure that the soldier is accountable for all these items and has eyes on these items when need, so that he can report it to his higher command. Accountability also includes the most important piece of equipment the soldier him or herself. Anything can and will happen especially in combat, that’s why the team member should make sure that the team or squad leader know where the soldier and his or her equipment is at all times.
The Army spends a lot of money on equipment and belongings for the soldiers, so the Army expects to know where its equipment is. No matter what someone is always responsible for equipment in the Army. It goes to the highest officer to the lowest enlisted personal in the chain of command and back up again. Like in combat when there is a “code Red” the soldier knows that at a given and safe time he or she should get to the rally point, predestined by his or her chain of command, that way he or she and his or her equipment can be accounted for.
Knowing if something or someone is missing you could easy look at the accountability report to see if it was there before. 2. APPROPRIATE PLACE OF DUTY. Being at the appropriate place of duty at the correct time is a part of being dependable and reliable, respectable soldier. Being at the right place at the right time is particularly important, reason being is to make certain orders are carried out and to ensure a steady opt tempo. When a soldier is late or perhaps does not report at all to a place at the time ordered.
That effectively compromises and diminishes the efficiency of which the task is to be completed. A Soldier’s consistency begins with his ability and discipline for being where he is ordered to be when he is ordered to be there. As simple as this task sounds it is often times the most difficult to achieve one hundred percent efficiency. Once again discipline comes into play as a major contributing factor, as well as infinite variables as one might imagine. However, one’s; discipline, accountability, motivation, fortitude, integrity, respect, and duty can increase punctuality to near perfect levels.
Of course a bit of good fortune doesn’t hurt either. Additionally, success, respect, and dependability are just a few of the benefits and results of being in the right place on time, in plenty of time. being at the right place at the right time is the first and often times the most fundamental action a Soldier will partake in, when performing his everyday as well as war time duties. A soldier cannot exceed in the United States army if he or she is constantly late and at the wrong place.
A soldier who truly wants to succeed in the military must go out of his or her way to stay squared away on his or her place of duty. This concept goes for any person in any career. This is the most simple and most important aspect of being a soldier. If a soldier goes above and beyond in just about everything he or she does but is not on time and punctual than or she has failed at carrying out his or her orders. 3. PUNCTUALITY: Scheduling the work day is one of the most important duties any leader in the Army or the Armed Forces for that matter, tackle each and every day.
Being at the right place at the right time for any member of the Armed forces is extremely essential to the defense of the entire United States of America. It’s because of this that being on time is remarkably important. Dependability, accountability, consistency and discipline are all crucially related to being on time. Furthermore, promptness also shows that the individual Soldier aims high and has their priorities straight. However, being where one needs to be at the appointed time will always be one of the most important aspects of being a Soldier.
This is why failure to be on time not only severely hinders mission capability and readiness, but also can without a doubt cost unnecessary loss of life. The liability of the Soldier is the responsibility of a Leader. Every component of his everyday and war time duties depends on his level of accountability. This ranges from: being on time for the first formation of the day in garrison, being on time to relieve a fellow Soldier from his post, or being on time to provide critical reinforcements for a battle weakened and compromised force.
Which could compromise and the security of the area or Forward Operating Base could be breached and a mass loss of life could result. As the theory goes, how one trains is how one fights. Using this logic one can only come to the conclusion that if a Soldier isn’t on time how can he save and protect the lives of his brothers in arms? The answer is simple, he can’t. He can’t be depended upon if he isn’t disciplined enough to be on time every time he is ordered. He also weakens the combat readiness of his platoon if he isn’t at the right place at the right time.
Dependability is the key to discipline and ultimately being punctual. I say this because punctuality requires the Soldier to be dependable and the more dependable he is the more disciplined he is. Furthermore, the more disciplined he is the more punctual he is, the more punctual he is the safer his battle buddies will be, which in-turn improves the mission success rate. As well as the overall effectiveness of the platoon, which increases the safety and effectiveness of the company, then battalion, so on and so forth.
In other words, under the unyielding authority of military life there is simply no margin for error regarding promptness. A cliche that is easy to remember: Timely actions allow no room for untimely Soldiers. Although this is merely an example it bears true to the mantra of always be on time everywhere you go. Of course being “on time” in the Army life is being at your destination at the very least ten minutes prior to your actual prescribed time of being present. By no means is there ever an exception to this rule. At least never in the Military world.
Once again, it all can be traced back to discipline and duty in the great army that we as soldiers serve in. We not only do this for ourselves but the ones we love, future soldiers that will one day take our place and fill our shoes. It is our duty to true to traditions and the ways that have been set for us. Also to apply new and positive ways that will help us and those to come to succeed in the army as enlisted, NCO’s and officers . If no one was ever on time or at their appointed place of duty or assignment the army I serve in today would not be what is it.
We would not the inspiring stories and history to teach and tell or families about how the great USA came to be what it is today and how it happened. It all started with some young or old person taking it upon themselves to follow the orders given and be at their appointed place of duty and being on time. These are just a few things that help to make a soldier what he or she can be and show what he or she is truly capable of doing or becoming in the world of the armed forces today . Duty is one of our army values and those are the guidelines to which we as soldiers live our lives by.
If I wish to remain in the service as a soldier and maybe one day officer I will start to apply these guidelines to my life and be as proficient as i possibly can as junior soldier. I was told by a NCO that we are leaders of tomorrow but in order to lead we have to learn to listen and follow instruction before we can give them. We are who America counts on when shit gets hot and being on time has saved millions of lives but many have lost so as tribute to battles I promise to do all I can as a soldier so that their sacrifice was not in vane but for us to go on and secure what we all love and call home.
