CAT Draft. ‘Reconciliation and resolution do not always coincide’ Reconciliation and resolution are factors which play a colossal role in the lives of many; it can be questioned whether or not these two elements influence and complement one another. Realization in one’s self of their true morals causes a settlement of differing ideologies. Often an individual’s reluctance to reform their attitude is beneficial for themselves but one’s desired outcome may not be reached.

Further, individuals may alter their views dramatically to suit a majority; losing their ensue of Just and causing contradictions of their beliefs. In order for one to come to agreeable terms with others, an amendment within themselves and the way in which they view the world must occur. Often, an individual’s stubbornness and resistance to modify how they see a situation, causes friction and oppositions to clash. When an individual learns to interpret situations in a diverse way; varying levels can be taken into account and considered before a final understanding is met. With this skill one can begin to embrace society with an entirely new perspective. Such a realization is evident in the film ‘American History X’ directed by Tony Okay, in a conversation between Derek and Mr. Sweeney, where Sweeney explains to Derek how he was also once influenced by the hatred of his race placed on white people. He reveals that his ignorance lead him to “blame everything and everyone… [blame] white people [and] [blame] society’.

As Sweeney continues he elaborates hat he was not getting any answers as he was “asking the wrong questions” and further coming to the realization that his view on the world around him was distorted because “[it] did not make [his] life any better”. Such a turning point in one’s life results in re-evaluation of how one’s behaviors reflect that of their current situation. In other words, whether or not they have been accepting to the values of others or narrowly selfish to only their thoughts and beliefs. One’s reconcile allows for the ability to see past their own selfish needs in order for a solution to be uncovered.

Once an individual mends their ridicule mindset, they are able to labor towards a desirable outcome. Though at times the period between which one realizes change and discovers their objective, is short lived. In ‘American History X’ Derek reasons with Danny after gang gathering explaining to him the misconceptions he had about the world prior to his time in the prison. He explained that he did not profit from all the hate, and instead he was “tired of being passed off’. There after Danny, gains the perspective that “hate is baggage… Life is too short to be passed off all the time”.

After Dandy’s turning point in life, he is shot and killed. Too many times in society individuals experience battles with their conscience, as they struggle to decide what is morally right. That is why once an individual has an epiphany; they lack precious time in which to seize an opportunity which was present right from the very everything, [she] still believed everyone was really good at heart”. Though Frank resided in a period where there world around her was chaotic; she remained optimistic and her fuelled her internal peace even though she did not get the chance o witness external peace.

Similar A change in only one individual’s morals does not always equal a shift in beliefs of a majority group. For the reason that any one group is formed out of mutually strong opinions about a belief that bonds each member tightly to each other. As presented in the film ‘American History X’ when Derek is in the midst of a gang gathering his former alliance, Seth who greatly respected him; holds a gun at Derek claiming “[Derek] you make me f***inning sick! Hence once an individual’s bond within a group is loosened, principles change and members have retreat difficulty coming to terms with this sudden challenge of contrasting ideologies. A number of individuals are able to perceive their life on a greater scheme and can determine where their Judgments will lead; the Okay utilizes Seth as an example of those who are unable to grasp the bigger picture and only presents themselves in a manner that lives up to the expectations of others. Such is a depiction of contemporary society, where if an individual differs in an aspect as simple as clothing.

They will be alienated for their incompatible opinion; thus change in any en person will spark controversy as there is no universal agreement society that will excuse the differences of others. Peace in oneself is difficult to obtain however once it is found there will be adjustments in the way in which one reasons with not only themselves but others alike. With others their perspectives may separate them from the rest of society; nether less modification of one’s mentality will lead to changed goals. In addition finding a balance between one’s morals and the consideration of others opinion will lead to ease of unity in society.
