Think that Jane Elliot was a woman before her time. What she put together to teach the children about discrimination was brilliant. I not only watched the first and second parts in class, I watched all six parts on You Tube. Laughed and cried watching all six parts. I see that just putting the idea into ones mind can make things happen. Think the most upsetting part of this experiment is that if you place children in the subordinate group they immediately did poorly. L feel that more people need to see this video. Hint it needs be a caching tool in schools, businesses and in the home It seems that these children were given a great gift going threw this. They seemed to catch on fast and understood, that discrimination was a bad thing and not only did they feel discrimination from their teacher but by fellow peers also. In my opinion, discrimination not only then but now is worse then ever. Today there is not just the black and Indians being discriminated against it is everyone. This is happening because people in a whole have become close-minded due to any events that have happen in the world.
From World War II people started to discriminate against Japanese people to present day when 9-11 happen now, people have started to discriminate against people who are from the Middle East. Discrimination has also become a problem with people with disabilities. In addition, growing up in a small town like the children in this film saw how discrimination is a fully learned thing. For example, grew up in a town that was 100% white there were no African Americans, Indians or other races. The only race was white.
If a person of any other race came into town they were ran out of town. Moreover, when we would go into the city and we would see a person not of our race we were told to roll up the windows even with it being 1 00 outside we rolled up the windows and locked the door because we were told that people of all other races were bad and would rob rape or kill us. Consequently, I think some thing really back fired with how I was raised because at the age of nineteen I left home and started to date outside of my race.
Furthermore, I ended up marrying and having children out of my race. Finally, when children are taught correctly think that discrimination can be removed and everyone can be treated equally. In conclusion, I have started to post this video in every social group belong to on the internet and I have been in contact with my children’s schools to see what we can do to help curb discrimination.
