Biochemistry Lipid Metabolism Assignment

Biochemistry Lipid Metabolism Assignment Words: 512

How energy is stored in organisms as lipids. ; Compare saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. ; Demonstrate the chemical structure of a saturated and unsaturated fatty acid. ; part 2: ; The role of fatty acids in the body. ; Diagrams to demonstrate the fluid mosaic structure of cell membranes. ; Part 3: ; Explain how no-fat diets can affect the biochemical functions of the body.

Part 1: Lipids and TAP Production ; Lipid breakdown is closely linked to the breakdown of carbohydrates which can be ransomed into fats. ; The first stage to metabolize lipids is hydrolysis of the lipid in the cytoplasm in order to produce fatty acids and glycerol. Glycerol is then metabolize into dehydrogenation phosphate. The hydrogenation metabolize from glycerol is then metabolize into one of two different compounds. Hydrogenation may be converted to pyrrhic acid to make energy, or the dehydrogenation might be used in glutinousness to make glucose-6-phosphate for glucose needed in the blood. Fatty acids are manufactured from proteins and also from carbohydrates. Fatty acids are stabilized into acetylene Coca using the fatty acid spiral. ; The acetylene Coca is then transformed into TAP, CA, and H2O using the electron transport chain and the citric acid cycle. ; Considerable amounts of energy is discharged and exchanged as TAP throughout the oxidation process of the fatty acids. The TAP is created both from the citric acid cycle and the fatty acid spiral (Parted, 2003). Saturated Vs.. Unsaturated Saturated Fatty Acids Unsaturated Do not contain double bonds between carbons.

Contain at least one double bond between carbons. Source is mainly from animals. Source is mainly from plants. Saturated High cholesterol content. Low cholesterol content. High melting point. Low melting point. Easily compacted and more dense. Molecules with lots of “bends” cannot be packed tightly or closely together, fats are less dense. The Role of Fatty Acids in the Body Saturated Fatty Acid Green…… Carbon Red……….. Oxygen Green…….. Carbon Red… ………. Oxygen Yellow….. . Hydrogen Unsaturated Fatty Acid Yellow…….

The Role of Fatty Acids in the Body ; Saturated fats are broken down during metabolism in the body and are used to make glycerol and glucose in the body. Saturated fats can be metabolize but their voters are not removed completely from the body. Their remains are left in the endothelial of our blood vessels known as triglycerides. ; Triglycerides can form plaque inside of the walls of the arteries and blood vessels, ultimately causing coronary artery disease. ; Essential fatty acids are fats that can be significant to the correct function of our bodies.

Our bodies cannot produce these fatty acids on its own, so it is crucial that we eat diets abundant in essential fatty acids. ; Essential fatty acids assist with cellular development and cell membrane formation. Essential fatty acids also help tit the development of the brain and nervous system. They help with thinning your blood and contain natural anti-inflammatory traits. ; Essential fatty acids may also help you look better, a diet low in essential fatty acids has been shown to create skin problems and improve skin problems.
