Religion and religious traditions are a very important part of life and culture. Although there is many religions and religious cultures they are all based on the same Idea of Its teachings, text, doctrine, stories, myths, prayer, pilgrimage, ritual, leadership, worship, and relationships among others. In this essay these topics will be described. Also specific examples from various religious traditions from week one readings that honor sacred things such as rituals, visions, influences, some examples from my own religion.
First a description of what a religious tradition is and it definition. A religious tradition Is something passed down from generation to generation that someone from that specific religion does that was started In the beginning of that religion. The definition of religion Is the service and worship of God or the supernatural and the commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance. The definition of tradition is an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior as a religious practice.
It is also a social custom a belief r story or a body of beliefs or stories relating to the past that are commonly accepted as historical though not verifiable. The handing down of Information, beliefs, and customs by word of mouth or by example from one generation to another without written instructions, cultural continuity in social attitudes, customs, and institutions characteristic manner, method, or style.
So, knowing the definitions it can be said that a religious tradition Is something handed down from generation to generation that is or was a service to worship a god or higher power. Religious rituals are often symbolic reenactments of a religion’s key stories. Sacredness A distinction is made between the sacred and the ordinary; Ceremonies often emphasize this distinction through the deliberate use Of different language, clothing. And architecture. Certain objects, actions, people, and places may share in the sacredness or express it.
Exclusiveness and inclusiveness some religions emphasize that the sacred is distinct from the world and that order must be imposed by separating good from bad, true from false. In that view, to share in sacredness means separation-??for example, withdrawal from certain foods, places, people, practices, or beliefs. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are among the religions that have been generally exclusive, making It Impossible to belong to more than one religion at the same time.
