The Importance of the bible in Christianity. For Christian adherents, the Bible is viewed as the basic source of belief and practice. The bible consists of two testaments. One of these is the New testament, which is made up of the four Gospel that recount the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The other is the Old Testament, which is also known as the Hebrew Scriptures. The Hebrew Scriptures are stories, poetry, and ethical teachings of Judaism, of which Christianity stems from.
Christians look to the bible as a source of revelation, inspiration and renewal, and is a necessary source for Christians who wish to live a holy life in the eyes of God. The bible is central to Christianity as it reveals to Christian adherents the word of God and the core ethical teachings of Christianity. An example of this is the Ten Commandments which are found in the Old Testament. The first four of the Ten Commandments act as a guideline of how to love the Lord. “I am the LORD your God. You shall have no other gods before me. ‘ (Exodus 20- 2:4).
The last 6 of the Ten Commandments focus on a Christians interactions with others. ‘Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you. ‘(Ex. 20: 2???17). Without the bible Christians would have no record of the Ten Commandments that were laid down by God. The bible allows Christians to life a holy life in the eyes of God, and thus allows them to share in the eternal life with Him. The four Gospels of the New Testament recount the life, death and resurrection of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. They were written by four of Jesus’ apostles.
Jesus Christ acts as a role model for all Christians, as he led a life free from sin. ‘To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps. ‘ (Pet 1-2:21). The Gospels re-telling of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ gives Christians an example of how to live a life that God with deem good. The Principal beliefs of Christianity are all taken directly from or stemmed from the bible. The principal belief of the Divinity and Humanity of Jesus Christ is linked in the four Gospels. I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. ” (John 8:12). ‘After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry’ (Matt 4:2). These to quotes strongly support the Divinity and Humanity of Jesus Christ. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is also seen in all four of the Gospels. ‘That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. ‘(Rom. 0:9) The Christian Bible is an extremely important aspect of Christianity. Without the bible, modern Christianity would be very different from its origins. The bible is the source for all aspects of Christianity. For a Christian to ascend into heaven, they must first live a good, holy life, which they can do by studying the bible and its accounts of the life of Jesus Christ, who is the model all Christian should strive to be like. The bible is, in essence Christianity. Without it Christianity would be vastly different.
