In the letters of Paul in document D, it says, in Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, neither male nor female, neither slave nor free… Here is a community that invites you, which makes you an equal with all other members of that community. ” What this means is that Jesus doesn’t care what your status is. Every single person was made under God’s image. You were made the way you are for a reason. Which people really liked hearing because It gave them hope. Also, in document C. It says, “But this religion is saying that every person, man. Oman, child, lave, barbarian, no matter Who, is made in the image of God and is therefore of enormous value in the eyes of God. ” meaning everyone was made unique for a specific reason. Also, in document B, everyone was made equally under God’s image. The Romans had immortality, and the Christians did too. The only thing that is different between those two Is that the Romans believed that when they died, they either went to a world for heroes, or a world for commoners. Since Jesus treated everyone equally, the afterlife for the Christians was the same for everyone.
Since Jesus would say about how everyone is equally and was made differently for a reason, it gave people hope. It really cheered them up because then they would say everything happens for a reason. Another reason why Christianity became so popular, is because of how the Christians handled everything In a nonviolent way; no matter how tough the situation was. In Document E, It says, A crucial difference between the program of Caesar and the program of Christ is between peace through violent victory and peace through nonviolent justice. What the sentence from the document means is that the Romans eek peace in a violent way, while the Christians found it in a nonviolent way. This of course attracted people who believed in doing things in a calm peaceful nonviolent way rather than war. Which there was probably a lot of people who were tired of battles and wars going on through the empire. In Document A, It says, “There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus] and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it? ” He said in reply: “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all our being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as everything peaceful and told others to help whoever needs help. In text, Jesus would tell people to be kind and treat others with respect, and he’ll return the favor back to you. In document G, it shows how the Christians are nonviolent as well. Plain, served as a Judge to help a troubled area, wasn’t Christian.
He hated Christians because they didn’t buy sacrificial items from the Roman gods. So Plain would ask the people who were brought to him if they were Christians, if they said yes multiple times, he would execute them. Because the Christians would handle everything in a nonviolent way, it attracted people to Christianity. Maybe the more popular Christianity got, there will be peace found in a nonviolent way. Jesus himself said if you help others, good things will happen to you for being a good person.
Finally, the way Christianity was spread made a huge impact on how it became so popular in the ancient world. In Document F, it talks about how Paul. Paul is a guy that’s a few years younger than Jesus. He didn’t believe in the claims people would say about Jesus. Paul would always criticize on everything Jesus would say and do, but Paul had never seen him. The document says, “Then according to Pall’s own account, he saw the resurrected Jesus while traveling on the road to the city of Damascus, and it changed his life.
He spent the next 30 years traveling to eastern Mediterranean world, spreading Jesus teachings. ” So Paul kind attracted people to Christianity because of the good things he would say about Jesus, especially since it took him for 30 years. The way Christianity was spread in the ancient world had an impact on how it became so popular. If it wasn’t for Paul spreading information and stories about Jesus, not that many people would of known it existed or believed in Christianity.
Furthermore, Christianity took hold of the ancient world because of how it benefited a lot of people in the Roman Empire back in the days. They would automatically get an acceptance from god no matter what type of person they are, the Christians did many things in a nonviolent way unlike the Romans who did everything violently, and how Christianity became so popular is a big effect on the world even today 2/4 of the world today believe and a branch of the Christian faith.
