Environmental Pollution: Burden and Strategies for Control Assignment

Environmental Pollution: Burden and Strategies for Control Assignment Words: 2400

The more our country develops, the more our life conditions need to be improved. However, the environmental problem is so serious that it causes too much damage for our life, not only in many years ago but also nowadays. Have you ever heard about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch yet? It is twice the size of Texas and floating somewhere between San Francisco and Hawaii. It also has 80% plastic and weighs in at 3. 5 million tons. Many attempts have been made to clean them but it seems to be useless.

Today, as our global population expands, so too does the amount Of trash we produce, the mount of carbon dioxide we exhale and also the temperature of our global. If we continue this way, we will not be able to imagine how terrible all the damages may bring to our lives in the future. Therefore, our government, especially the local level should care more about the environmental problem and global warming and have more solutions as soon as possible. First of all, why should our government care about the environment and global warming?

According to the result of the survey that I just collected, there are 19% of the people who did the survey believe that environment and global warming is the most serious problem today. Additionally, this issue has a close relationship with the Constitution of America. For example, the preamble has six goals of government and according to the fifth goal which is about promoting the general welfare, the government has the responsibility to make sure that everyone can have a better life with many of its benefits.

Besides that, environment and global warming is also related to the Amendment IX which is about other rights to people, that means people have the right of living in a clean environment with less trash and pollution. Therefore, our government has to do give and protect these rights for its people as what it says in the Constitution of America. For what we have seen, the environment is polluted in some ways such as land pollution, air pollution and water pollution.

First, throughout these years, people have disposed of unwanted materials or trash onto streets, roadsides, in small local dumps or often in remote locations without fear of retribution. Those trash then pollute the land and the growing poles of waste led to the spread of disease which can kill a huge number of people on the Earth. According to a study by the Dutch organization FROM, “80 % of the people claim that everybody eaves Of a piece of paper, tins or something on the street behind. Also the smokers and youth are specific target groups within many campaigns conducted to keep countries free of litter.

And from the 1 999 research by Keep America Beautiful, 75% of Americans admitted to littering the last five years, yet 99% of the same individuals admitted they enjoyed a clean environment”. How come they want to live in a clean environment while they are the one who pollute their own environment. Specifically, base on the result of the survey that I did, 80% of the people believe that human is the main cause of polluted environment and global warming and 63% of them said that they are not doing anything to prevent global warming. That is a really serious problem.

Land pollution basically is also contaminated because of dumping of industrial wastes, mineral exploration, and misusing the soil by harmful agricultural practices. The soil gets polluted by the chemicals in pesticides and herbicides used for agricultural purposes. Next, they do not stop right there, those trash, chemicals and polluted soil flow into the rivers, lakes or even the oceans and cause water pollution. While many of the Heimlich and substances that are regulated maybe naturally occurring, the concentration is often the key in determining what is a natural component of water and what is a contaminant.

Those may not only cause damage to humans health but also disrupt plant growth, and kill many creatures Of animal who living in the water. One more other problem is the air pollution, it has been a serious problem throughout the history. The sources of air pollution can be found from both natural and human-based. Such as the smoke from traffics, factories, waste incinerators and as well as other types of eel-burning heating devices, and chemicals, dust, fumes from aerosol sprays and other solvent.

In addition, the consequence of the pollution is from waste deposition in landfills, which generate methane which may displace oxygen in an enclosed place and result the oxygen concentration reducing to below level. The effects of air pollution are diverse and numerous, it can have serous consequences for health of human beings and also severally affects natural ecosystems. As a result, those kinds of pollution have been the subject of global cooperation and conflict which is called global warming or he greenhouse effect because the gases that area gathering above the earth make the planet comparable to a greenhouse.

One of the largest factors contributing to global warming is the general problem of overpopulation and its many effects. The number of different products, human activities and many different gases, especially carbon dioxide can increase the planet’s temperature. All of that are the causes of many disasters such as tidal wave, storm, hurricanes, earthquakes which destroy many countries, take away many people’s lives and kill many creatures of animal.

How would you imagine our future if we continue not paying attention to the environmental problem and global warming? So it is especially important to our government to find out more solutions and care more about this issue. It will help to improve and develop every aspects Of our life including economy, society culture and many more. Second, which level of government is the most responsible? In my opinion, the local level is the most responsible because each city can have its own protecting environment programs and encourage people to join in it.

The problems that cause polluted environment and global warming include overpopulation, deforestation, garbage dumping and many others, these all have unique solutions which are now may being promoted by environmentalists of local government. For example, raising fossil fuel prices, taxes emissions and encourage people to take environmentally friendly action through such activities as planting trees will all help. It is also the same with the result of the survey that we just did, almost people vote for President Obama about doing a better job at protecting the environment.

Beside that, because many problems leading to global warming are caused or contributed o by overpopulation, so the local government may have the plan for people to begin working to reduce the family sizes. Family planning services actually help in the fight against global warning. Education is also a key method of reducing the greenhouse effect, by teaching and showing the people about the consequences of such tings as deforestation, environmental activists hope to prevent the problem that ultimately leads to global warming.

Widespread media attention to the global warming problem is also increasing awareness to people. This is causing both individuals and governments to act ore responsibly towards the environment. There is another specific activity that almost people do today because it is very easy, it is recycle. Everybody can do recycling every. Veer at every time. Almost everything we see around us can be recycled, recyclable material commonly includes batteries, biodegradable waste, clothing, electronics, garments, glasses, metal, paper, plastic and a lot more.

So the local government can encourage people to do recycling. In addition, levels talk about the role of our government, only 30% the people who were asked in our survey agree that our government do enough on the issue of environment and global warming. Therefore, our government, more specifically our local government should create more programs and give more instructions for the people to participate in and increase the rate of participants doing service activities to prevent and decrease polluted environment as well as global warming.

Finally, what is happening today that is related to the environment and global warming? As some recent surveys in America, the average person throws away 4 pounds of garbage per day, and the rate of what Americans threw away that recyclable is higher than our recycling rate. Moreover, Americans use millions Of plastic bottles every hour. Especially, every month, Americans threw out enough glass bottles and jars to fill up a giant skyscraper, but all oftenest are recyclable.

The plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1 sea creatures a year. For example, read in Los Angles Times few weeks ago, it said that: “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is one of the largest trash-areas all around the world. The Great Pacific Patch (also sometimes called the Eastern Garbage Patch) is in an area with an intense concentration of marine trash located teen Hawaii and California. The exact size of the patch is unknown, however because it is constantly growing.

After studying the trash found in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a scientist learned that 90% of the trash found there were plastic. It is estimated that 80% of the plastic in the ocean comes from land sources while 20% comes from ships at sea (including water bottles, cups, bottle caps, plastic bags, fish netting, etc… ). Some of the best ways to aid in the cleaning up of these islands and other trash area as well is to suppress their growth by enacting stronger recycling and disposal policies.

In addition, base on the survey, 80% of the people who completed the survey said that human are the main cause of global warming, but ironically, the race of people who did and doing things to prevent global warming is only 37%. There is another evidence on the Los Angles Times newspaper that I just read last few day: “Thousands of residents and tourists had to evacuate in Chula – a village popular with tourists in the Valiance region of Eastern Spain because the forest near that place was fired and the smoke grew raging close their home”.

It shows us about the consequences of deforestation. Too many people cut down trees, this leads to the decreasing of oxygen and increasing of carbon dioxide. Also, in the movie “An Inconvenient Truth” that I watched, they explained that, “The sun’s radiation comes in the form of the light waves that heat up the earth and irradiated back into the space in form of infrared radiation. But the problem is the thin layer at the atmosphere is being thickened by all of the warming pollution that’s being put up there.

And in another explanation, the global warming is because of the greenhouse effect and the amount of carbon dioxide in the air from years to years. All those effects make the temperature increase and cause forest fired. Overall, there are infinite things that happening today related strongly to the environment and global warming that need to be solved as soon as possible. In conclusion, environment and global warming is a very serious problem today. The government should care more and have more solutions to improve this issue.

As a student, I have already done and doing participate in some activities to protect the environment, such as collecting the recycle bottles and cans in the classrooms after school every week and go to sell them. Also, when I see someone throw trash on the road or in classroom or somewhere else, I remind them to pick it up, if they reject to do that, then pick it up for them. Although those are only very small actions, but if each person does a little bit and everyone participates in together then that will create a huge effort to make the problem better and make our future be brighter.

Section 1 – What is the problem? Today, environment is one of the most important problems that need to have more care about in the world. One main cause of the environment’s pollution is trash. As our global pollution expands so too does the amount of rash and many other polluted things we produce. If we continue this way, we will not be able to imagine how terrible the damages of that pollution bring for our lives. In this section, it will show you how our lives are affected and how much damages people have to suffer because of the pollution when they are also the main cause of it.

Then, you will be able to find out the best solution to solve these serious problems. Section 2 – What are some solutions to this problem? [pick] There are many solutions for this problem. However, there are some different political beliefs on this issue. The liberals believe that our overspent should propose more laws on this issue to put more control (by taxes) on businesses or companies which are the main cause of almost the amount of trash and require them to have more programs o protect the environment.

In the opposite, the conservatives believe that our government shouldn’t get involved in the practices of businesses and trust them to do the right things. This section describes about my political belief and some other political beliefs related to this problem. Section 3 – What did you do about your problem? [pick] Recycle is one of the best and easiest solution for the polluted environment , it brings us a lot of benefits.

Moreover, it is extremely simple for everyone to do, we can do everywhere at every time with almost everything we have such as clothing, batteries, electronics, glasses, metals, papers, plastic and many other things. I did get involved in doing recycling, too. My friends and collected plastic bottles and cans from classrooms at school and sell them to a recycling company. In addition, we also did a big project and some other activities on it. This section is about our group’s survey results, the Model Congress activities and my letter to a Governor Official.
