ASSIGNMENT ON: TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK IN BANGLADESH ORDER WINNER AND ORDER QULAIFIER Mobile phone market is one of the most turbulent market environments today due to increased competition and change. Bangladesh has been found to be a very good market for mobile network and some internationally renowned telecommunication companies have invested in telecommunication sector of Bangladesh. At present there are six mobile phone operators in Bangladesh. They are Grameenphone, Citycell, Banglalink, Aktel, Warid and Teletalk. Order Winner:
Grameenphone is leading the market with maximum market share and more than 1 crore subscribers. 60% of the company is owned by Telenor. Last year Grameen Phone achieved more than 50% growth in customer acquisition. The company is dominating the market with a growing number of subscribers every year. Grameenphone has the largest cellular network in the country with over 10,000 base stations in more than 5700 locations. Presently, nearly 96 percent of the country’s population is within the coverage area of the Grameenphone network. They are expanding the network more every day.
Besides a strong network and services like SMS/MMS Grameenphone is providing lots of value added services like: Internet Service: To make internet service available for everyone the mobile network has introduced the EDGE/GPRS enabled internet service under its network coverage. Bill Pay Service: A service which has enable suscribers to pay various utility bill throgh mobile phone. Medical Service: A 24 hour mobile medical service is provided through which suscribers can consult with a doctor through his mobile phone at any time.
Order Qualifier: Other five operators are investing their best ensure a place in the front line of the market. Warid Telecom recently introduced themselves here with a billion dollar investemnt. Aktel has changed their name to Robi to come up with a more upgraded network system and services for the subscribers. Citycell, country’s oldest mobile operator, is offering best network structure as they had enough time to spread their network around the country.
State owned mobile operator, Teletalk, came up with promises but failed to increase the number of suscribers. Banglalink, invested by Egyptian Telecom Company Orascom, is the fastest growing mobile operator in Bangladesh. They started their business after Grameenphone but in a short time they have built a good network system and boost the number of subscribers with their services and call rate. These operators in Bangladesh have become extremely aggressive in their quest to find more users by providing competitive prices and quality services.
