I’m very fortunate that I have received at most and sincere guidance and co-operation from gratitude to our respected teacher Mr.. Md. Raunchily Amah Lecturer of MIS of Leading University, Sleet. For giving me an assignment on “Management Information Systems of the Jejuna Fertilizer Company Limited” which has given me a great opportunity to increase my knowledge on preparing an MIS report. Also teach us how to collect data or information. Abstract
Through this project report an endeavor has been taken to emphasize on Management Information Systems (MIS) and the need of it in an organization as well as in Bangladesh. In spite of this the importance and implementation of MIS are also increasing rapidly. In this project we will focus on the role of MIS in Jejuna Fertilizer Company Limited OFFS). The Jejuna Fertilizer Company Limited OFFS) is the largest enterprise of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCC). CFML is implementing MIS in most of their sectors, such as: Manufacturing, HARD, RSI, Org. Structure, data transformation etc. The Management Team members of CFML have strong backgrounds in both computer hardware and software development.
This report will also provide information and identify the potential areas wherein the MIS could be effectively used. Management information system (MIS) or computer information system (CICS) consists of five related components: Hardware, Software, People, Procedure, and Collections of data. Information technologies (IT) represents the various types of hardware and software used in an information system including computers and networking equipment’s. The physical equipment used in computing is called hardware. The set of instruction that controls the hardware is known as software.
MIS components work together to provide information and help managers run the firm, solve problem and make decision. There is some lacking in business loving networking system like MIS/CICS/IT in the CFML. Main barriers are a lack of leadership, motivation and shortage of skill manpower to implement MIS in CFML. METHODOLOGY OF THIS STUDY Basically there are two types of methodology. One is Primary data and another is secondary data. Primary data: Primary data are those type of data that Vive collected information or survey directly on the organization. Secondary data: Secondary data are those type of data that Vive collected information from online or any reference books.
To make this overall assignment Vive followed the sources like, online, reference book, ND Journal. LIMITATION OF THIS STUDY There are some limitations of this study. Therefore the assignment may lack some crucial data. 1 . Necessary data and information an neither adequate nor well finished. 2. The duration that is for assignment program is not enough to learn about the MIS system of Jejuna Fertilizer Company Limited. 3. This assignment does not analyze the critical analysis of different sectors in the MIS in details. The assignment has encountered these limitations that may have hinder progress.
But with constant effort, our goal was to minimize the negative efforts of these Justification There are 500 chemical industries corporations in Asia. BCC is one of them. It is undoubtedly our nation’s pride. In this context, it may be noted that BCC started its functioning from 1st July, 1976. At that time BCC had enterprises under its management, but at present BCC has 13 enterprises under its control. It means that the BCC has been becoming smaller and smaller day-by-day for the disinvestment policies of the government.
Therefore the BCC needs to take decision for the implementation of MIS in industries to increase productivity, performance and to survive for existence and CFML as well. COMPANY PROFILE Introduction:- Bangladesh is an agrarian economy. Bangladesh has not attained self-sufficiency in meeting a vital agriculture input; the country has attained the capability of producing high quality granular urea. In order to meet the increasing demand of food grain in the country fertilizer is one of the main inputs to agricultural sector. It is an essential prerequisite to increase food production.
Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCC) is one of the biggest industrial organizations in the public sector under Ministry of Industries, Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh. The Jejuna Fertilizer Company Limited OFFS) is the largest enterprise of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCC). It is situated on the bank of the river Jejuna in the district of Smaller. History and Overview :- CFML has been established in 1991 to facilitate the agriculture growth of Bangladesh through producing granular urea.
With the commissioning of the 6th urea fertilizer plant Jejuna fertilizer company Ltd had been established. It is situated on the bank of the river Jejuna in the district of Smaller. Its urea production capacity is 1700 metric ton per day (matt) designed by COMPARTMENTS and ammonia production opacity is 1078 matt designed by Half-heartedness Denmark. The total plant infrastructure was constructed by Mediumistic heavy industries limited (MM’) of Japan. Bangladesh is an agrarian economy. In order to meet the increasing demand of food grain in the country fertilizer is one of the main inputs to agricultural sector.
It is an essential prerequisite to increase food production. Bangladesh chemical industries corporation (Bcc)is one of the biggest industrial organizations in the public sector under ministry of industries, government of the peoples’ republic of Bangladesh. Organizational Structure of CFML :- In this project, Business unit is considered where information is generated. The Chief Executive Officer of CFML is Managing Director (MD). SOOT analysis and findings Introduction :- Every Institute need to do their SOOT analysis. Because it helps to find its strengths and weakness. SOOT Analysis:- A SOOT analysis must first start with defining a desired end state or objective. A SOOT analysis may be incorporated intonate strategic planning model. Strategic Planning has been the subject of much research. S tree n get h s: characteristics of the business or team that t give it an advantage over others in the industry. ;Weaknesses : are characteristics that place the firm at a disadvantage relative to others. Environment. ;Threats: external elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business. Identification of SHOTS is essential because subsequent steps in the process of planning for achievement of the selected objective may be derived from the SHOTS. Strengths:- A firm’s strengths are its resources and capabilities that can be used as a base for developing a competitive advantage. MIS focus as monitoring the most essential parts and functions of CFML to make online monitoring affordable forever compressor, turbine, pump, equipment and each business unit. ;In CFML, data entry works have been executing by using computer since 2000. Therefore, daily productions report, inspection report, technical minutes, different process data sheet of urea, ammonia &utility plant are preparing by computer. Weaknesses:- The absence of certain strengths may be viewed as a weakness. The following may be considered weaknesses: ;CFML, detecting serious damage to prevent the machine from catastrophic, costly failures. CFML has no strong brand identity in front of world. Opportunities:- The external environmental analysis may reveal certain new opportunities for profit and growth. Such opportunities include: ;MIS can apply for online monitoring systems as a valuable tool for machine maintenance. These systems can be recognized as a useful means of increasing availability and reducing operating costs of CFML. ; CFML has an excellent worker group to work in. Threats:- Changes in the external environmental also may present threats to the firm.
Such threats include: ;In CFML actually IT is not used, computers are used only format entry. Though it should use MIS in its administrative department. FINDINGS Existing Management Information System of CFML has been studied thoroughly the main findings are summarized below: 1 . There are 21 computers for data entry & 18 programmable logic controllers (PAL) to control plant in the CFML. 2. CFML is now under planning to implement networking in each business unit. There is no distributed control system (DOCS) even there is no planning to implement DOCS in CFML. 3.
Every organization takes the decision at three decision levels: operations, tactics and strategy. In CFML, around 327 officers work for management in these three operations level does of day-to-day operations and makes decisions. There is no plan of CFML to computerize the operation level. 4. An CFML, data entry works have been executing by using computer since 2000. Therefore, daily productions report, inspection report, technical minutes, different process data sheet of urea, ammonia & utility plant are preparing by computer. 5. Manual MIS department of BCC collects information from Chic’s enterprises monthly& offices.
