A person knows that a computer is any device which aids humans in performing various kinds of computations or calculations. In that respect the earliest computer was the abacus, used to perform basic arithmetic operations. People, which earn with the work on a computer, have the greatest part of health complaints on muscles and Joints diseases. But there can be more serious diseases. The most prevailing Is carpal tunnel syndrome. In this case arm nerves are damaged with the frequent and long work at the computer. The hardest form of this syndrome Is pains that deprive human efficiency.

Since it is available in almost all the fields and computer knowledge Is important to everyone. With the ever Increasing population of computer technology, It Is almost Impossible to find an educational establishment that does not use it. Computer are becoming a more and more important within education as both a learning tools for students and for keeping records of all individuals at school. Computers has important aspect in school Including “administrative use, and research” Importance of Computers In Education (2006, March 1 5), from http://www. Blurt. Mom/q977964. HTML The first important aspect of using computer is for Administrative use. Schools often use 1 OFF and managing school information. Computers may be used to track student attendance and grades. Some students send their projects through e-mail, it is also use as a form of communication. The school libraries use an electronic system for locating books. The second aspect of using computer is for researching. Students use computer to research for their projects and assignment. Research projects for student take a modern turn with the use of computer.

Internet research familiarizes tuned with the wealth of knowledge given by the computer. A computer also offers the chance to teach children how to find reliable resources since the internet contains inaccurate or undocumented information. For every factual and accurate piece of information that can be found on the internet, there are ten false one. Computers allow students to collect this data quickly and efficiently and learn skills such as finding relevant information and producing it in a way that can be read by others. Communication is another important role of computer and has become very easy through internet and e-mail.

Computer communicates using telephone lines and modem through email. You can send messages to anybody in any part of the world in Just a second while if we write letter it will reach in some days. So the internet has made the earth a global village and above all saves time. This would not be possible without computers. Computers have many important roles in the society. Without computers the students and teachers will be having a big problem in doing their Jobs, and without computers you cannot communicate to your families in other country. Today computer is playing very important role in our lives.

Now is the time that we cannot imagine the world without computers, this technology is advancing both in industry and home. Ill- ADVANTAGES OF COMPUTERS A computer is a crucial component of the academic success of a student whether it is a laptop or a desktop, a computer offers a unique platform to gain the most up- to-date information and to analyses the use of that information for school projects. There a lot of advantages of using computer. One of the main advantages in using computers is the possibility that a task that may take longer to do by hand may be done in a shorter period of time by using computer.

Computers are designed to do tasks much faster and more accurately than human. Numerical computations, creation and editing of documents, data organization, presentation and graphics are examples of tasks that are done efficiently when computers are used. There are possibilities to spell check words and therefore make changes. A computer is a really comfortable, convenient and helpful thing; it often makes lots of work for us which normally consumes plenty of time. Another useful thing is that computers now are often small and we can take them wherever we want. We can use them f. X. N planes, restaurants or in same waiting rooms. An additional advantage of using the computer is that we can develop our computer skills and we can learn in this way. Now, there are many programs for learning, especially languages. Other advantages of using computers are it can improve the technology skills of the student. Student who access computers in the classroom will build their time computer use becomes mandatory at the high school and college levels, students will be well-versed in using basic word, processing programs, doing computer-based research and typing.

Building these skills at a younger age by way f classroom computers can pay dividends as the student advances through middle school, high school and perhaps beyond. IV- DISADVANTAGES OF COMPUTERS On the other hand, computers have disadvantages too. The medical problems that can arise from using computers can generally defined as the many medical conditions, a computer users may experience from using computers extensively over a prolonged period of time in an inefficient manner. There are five main notable medical problems that can cause from using computers.

They are Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Computer radiation, Computer Vision Syndrome, Musculoskeletal Problems, Computer Radiation and Chronic fatigue Syndrome. A computer-induced medical problem is an umbrella term for the various problems a computer user can develop from prolonged and incorrect use of computer. The medical problems that can arise from using computers can be generally defined as the many medical conditions a computer user may experience from using computer extensively over a prolonged period of time in an inefficient manner.

The biggest medical problem associated with computer related work is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (ACTS). Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the palm of the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. The median nerve controls sensations to the palm side of the thumb and fingers, as well as impulses to some small muscles in the hand that allow the fingers and thumb to move. It is a stress related injury caused by repetitive movements of Joints especially the wrists and can lead to numerous musculoskeletal problems.

Symptoms usually start gradually, with frequent burning, tingling, or itching numbness in the palm of the hand and the fingers, especially the thumb and the index and middle fingers. Some carpal tunnel sufferers say their fingers feel useless and swollen, even though little or no swelling is apparent. The symptoms often first appear in one or both hands during the night, since many people sleep with flexed wrists. A person with carpal tunnel syndrome may wake up feeling the need to “shake out” the hand or wrist. As symptoms worsen, people might feel tingling during the day.

Decreased grip strength may make it difficult to form a fist, grasp small objects, or perform other manual tasks. In chronic and/or untreated cases, the muscles at the base of the thumb may waste away. Some people are unable to tell between hot and cold by touch. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to avoid permanent damage to the median nerve. A physical examination of the hands, arms, shoulders, and neck can help determine if the patient’s complaints are related to daily activities or to an underlying disorder and can rule out other painful conditions that mimic carpal tunnel syndrome.

The wrist is examined for tenderness, swelling, warmth, and disconsolation. Each finger should be tested for sensation, and the muscles at the base of the hand should be examined for strength and signs of atrophy. Routine laboratory tests and X-rays can reveal begin as early as possible, under a doctor’s direction. Underlying causes such as diabetes or arthritis should be treated first. Initial treatment generally involves resting the affected hand and wrist for at least 2 weeks, avoiding activities that may worsen symptoms, and monopolizing the wrist in a splint to avoid further damage from twisting or bending.

If there is inflammation, applying cool packs can help reduce swelling. As computer become useful in both the school and home, the number of computer related syndromes and diseases is growing and the eyes are retainer not spared the potentially damaging effects of long hours in front of a laptop if you use your computer for more than two hours a day and frequently suffer headaches, tired yes and blurred vision during or after computer use, you are probably experiencing some degree of Computer Vision Syndrome. C.V. describes a group of eye and vision-related problems that result from prolonged computer use.

Many individuals experience eye discomfort and vision problems when viewing a computer screen for extended periods. The level of discomfort appears to increase with the amount of computer use. The most common symptoms associated with Computer Vision Syndrome (C.V.) are eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision dry eyes neck and shoulder pain. These symptoms may be caused by poor lighting, glare on the computer screen, improper viewing distances, poor seating posture, and uncorrected vision problems. In most cases, symptoms of C.V. occur because the visual demands of the task exceed the visual abilities of the individual to comfortably perform them.

At greatest risk for developing C.V. are those persons who spend two or more continuous hours at a computer every day. Computer Vision Syndrome can be diagnosed through a comprehensive eye examination. Solutions to computer- elated vision problems are varied. However, C.V. can usually be alleviated by obtaining regular eye care and making changes in how you view the computer screen. Computer Radiation is another medical problem caused by using computer for a long time. It is most harmful to skin health because we sit directly on front of the computer for long period of time with our face absorbing the radiation.

It is also make you feel sick and burn your skin. Most people are not aware of this and continue to suffer with ill health they have no explanation for. They do not realize sometimes ill health is related to computer use. Computer radiation is comprised of various types of electromagnetic frequencies. When you sit in front of a computer screen, you are being hit by many different types of electromagnetic radiations (EMMER). Computers emit FL (Very Low Frequency) electromagnetic radiation and ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) electromagnetic radiation, as well as soft x-rays if using an old style Cathode Ray Tube monitor.

As with all radiation exposure, the closer in proximity to the source, as well as the longer the duration of time in the NEFF field, the more detrimental the electromagnetic frequencies upon the body. Last medical problem caused by using computer is the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. According to Med lexicon’s medical dictionary Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a syndrome of persistent incapacitating weakness or fatigue, accompanied by nonspecific somatic symptoms, lasting at least 6 months, and not attributable to any known cause.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CIFS or ME/CIFS) is much more than Just being tired a lot. People with ME/CIFS are so run down that it interferes with their lives and can make it of their responsibilities at home and on the Job, while others are severely disabled and even bedridden. Furthermore, they’re not Just dealing with extreme fatigue but with a wide range of other symptoms, including flu-like symptoms and chronic pain. A symptom is something the patient senses and describes, while a sign is something other people, such as the doctor notice.

For example, drowsiness may be a symptom while dilated pupils maybe a sign. Symptoms of CIFS are similar to those of most common viral infections (muscle aches, headache, and fatigue). They come on within a few hours or days and last for 6 months or more. Examples of chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms include headaches, tender lymph nodes, sore throat, useless pain, Joint pain, feeling tired, and feeling discomfort after physical exertion. These symptoms either stay with a person or come and go for more than six months.

It’s important to note that the signs and symptoms are often similar to those of other health conditions. V- CONCLUSION In conclusion, almost every home, office, or school has a computer of some kind these days. It may seems at first that having a computer brings only benefits, but further consideration shows that it also has disadvantages. Despite this fact computer like other devices has pros and cons. Having computer certainly has disadvantages but there are some good aspects of it too.
