All of these scenes show that an individual’s inability to control their selfish desires leads o conflict. Conflict whilst selfish desire is in play, tends to get more aggravated as it is what a certain person wants. Juliet in her case has no care or intention whatsoever to follow her generations hatred. At the end of her first encounter with Romeo, Juliet states how she had just learned that the man she fell in love with was heir to the Montague family, the family in which her family is in pure hatred with.

She says “My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown and known too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to me That I must love a loathed enemy. ” She has fallen in love with the family’s enemy ND knows her family will never approve of her love. This occurs within the happening of Table’s death, she cannot say anything about the dilemma she finds her self intertwined in without the use of the oxymoron. This shows how no matter what her family wants she will go against them due to her own selfish desires.

Conflict can also arise due to selfish desire, when someone insults the person you love you may turn against them even if it is someone close to you. Juliet heard Romeo insulted b the nurse and she immediately turns. She says “Blisters be thy tongue For such a wish! He was not born to shame; upon his row shame is ashamed to sit; For ‘its a throne where honor may be crown’s Sole monarch of the universal earth. O, what a beast was to chide at him! ” Juliet acknowledges the nurse’s mistake and her reply shows a non- ambiguous meaning and it is clear enough so that the nurse will not misinterpret what she is saying.

The nurse however, didn’t pick up on the fact Juliet was defending Romeo for her own selfish desires and showing the increase of love for him, rather than showing the decrease in love for Romeo, like the nurse thought. Due to one’s inability to undertake the reins over their selfish desires, conflict reface. We can observe this conflict when Caplet, Gullet’s father, says “Hang thee, young baggage, disobedient wretch! I tell thee what: get thee to church Thursday, or never after look me in the face. From this we can tell that Gullet’s father only wants Juliet to marry Paris to continue the generation and the generations wealth. He tells her that if she doesn’t marry on Thursday, that she shall leave home and never see him again. We can tell that Caplet’s selfish desires take control over the situation as he only wants Juliet to marry the man of his choosing, so that the generations of wealth may noting u. As you can see, conflict due to selfish desires can arise several issues.

People get defensive and often take sides, this can result in even worse conflict amongst the different people that the conflict has occurred from. Conflict is clearly demonstrated in Shakespearean “Romeo and Juliet” and they cannot control their selfish desires, as everyone has their own opinions as to whom Juliet should marry based on what they want and think is best. Therefore conflict is strongly arisen in the case where individuals cannot control their own selfish desires within the tragedy of” Romeo and Juliet”.
