Karl Marx which argues that individuals and social groups within society with greater power exploit the weaker sections of society. In this project, we discuss how the conflict theory would assert that the main reason why prostitution still exists is due to the fact that women have not had access to economic opportunity and have had to rely on economic support from men (Women have had to exchange sexual availability (a resource they control) for this support (a resource untroubled by men).
Statement of Problem: To show how prostitution supports the status quo and propitiates inequity between powerful groups and subordinate groups with the help of conflict theory. Objectives: This project has the following objectives: 1. To analyze the Conflict Theory of prostitution given by Karl Marx and understand the social concepts related to prostitution. 2. To study various related theories in support and disagreement of the theory given by Karl Marx. 3. To analyze the past of prostitution, its origin and its effect on society. Hypothesis:
The Conflict Theory would assert that the main reason why prostitution still exists is due to the fact that women have not had access to economic opportunity and have had to rely on economic support from men (Women have had to exchange sexual availability (a resource they control) for this support (a resource controlled by men). Some conflict theorists frame prostitution as a purely economic issue and claim that it should be decentralized and treated solely as a labor issue, while other conflict theorists propose that prostitution uniquely affects poor women, for e. Women of color, who are more likely to be poor than white women. Method of Study: This project has been compiled through doctrinal method of study. Various books and web sources were referred to for the completion of this project. Review of Literature: Review of Literature has been included in the project. Analysis: Analysis and interpretation has been incorporated in the project.
