During the last century there were several major developments in the evolution of mass media. These developments are the evolution of the print, electronic, and digital eras which now encompass modern day media. These three eras have significantly affected American culture and economics, while ushering in a new standard of mass communications. While paper printing can be traced back to China as early as 100 C. E, modern printing did not emerge until the mid-flatten century. At that time, the printing press was introduced.

The printing press was a magnetometer of machine duplication, rapid duplication, and faster production. These three elements were necessary for mass-market innovation. Information and ideas could now be spread faster and farther than ever before. With the evolution of the printing press, production of mass quantities at lower costs per unit became essential in mass production of other goods. This led to the Industrial Revolution, modern capitalism, and the consumer culture of the twentieth century. With the revolution in industry came the rise of the middle class and an elite business class of winners and managers who acquired the kind of influence formerly held only by the nobility or the clergy. Therefore, people spent less time communicating with each other. Even if it was a fraction, the person’s attention was directed more toward the television than the radio. The radio was not as important. People around them, in the room, also became less important, even if it was a miniscule. I am not passing Judgment on anyone, or on society. This is an area I never studied.

It is only that I had enough time to figure out all this, and you could find my ideas in a course about electronic media. Electronic media has one chief aim, and you know what that is, or you should. What is meant by the term media convergence with regards to technology means simply the merging of different content in different media channels. An example of that would be books, newspapers, and magazines which can now be found on the Internet using any laptop, smartened, e-reader, or tablet. The lines between traditional media and technology are becoming blurred.

As forms of media converge, revisions unavailable methods of communication emerge, changing the way we send and receive messages. In the past there were clear lines between radio, TV, printed media, and the internet. Now newspapers and TV programs all have their own websites giving up to date news as it happens. Printed media can be accessed on the internet using an e-reader that gives the conveniences of the internet and electronic display technology. Media convergence has affected everyday life in many ways. In the present time it is all about how to do things as easily as possible.

Media nonviolence has given us a way to easily access everything we need as well as a sense of convenience. Now look at things: Newspapers and TV have web sites. Those web sites deliver news in almost real time complete with moving video and feeds formatted for smart phones. Movies are now available streaming on the internet (Nettling). TV shows are now available streaming on the internet (Hula. Com). Viewers can participate in TV shows in real time via social media (The Voice on NBC is a good example). Things are all converging into one big media delivery vehicle.
