Jewish terrorism was a massive problem in Palestine because hatred of the British rule had developed amongst the Jews in Palestine, when they had heard about the Holocaust and the killings of thousands of Jews they turned aggressive. The Zionist were demanding their own independent state, they claimed that the Holocaust survivors needed somewhere they could live. At noon on 22th July 1946 a group of men from the Jewish terrorism group, the Irgun, planted explosives in the British military headquarters in Palestine.
The explosion killed 88 people, including 15 Jews. The Irgun also hung two British soldiers in August 1947 in revenge for the execution of 3 Irgun members. They did this because Jewish leaders believed that the British were stopping them from becoming an independent state, as a result of this Jewish terrorist groups bombed British army bases, barracks, bridges, trains and railways in Palestine. Between 1945 and 1948 over 300 British soldiers or officials were killed in Palestine.
Despite such acts of the Jewish terrorist, there was wide spread sympathy in Europe and the United States because of the Nazi persecution of Jews and the survivors of the Holocaust. There was a large Jewish population in the USA and they gave millions of dollars to the Zionist leaders and forced President Truman to put pressure on Britain to let more Jews immigrate to Palestine. Nevertheless Britain refused because they believed it would be unfair to the Arabs and would start a civil war. As a result of Britain turning away thousands of Jews refugees they came under worldwide criticism.
